Realized I've not played a game of this style throughout the entire console generation.
So far looking around 'Tales Of Vesperia' seems to be the most well received.
Any pointers duders?

Final Fantasy XIII/-2?
You're probably right. Man, I feel like I've been avoiding this though.
Last FF game I played was X - How is XIII-2? Can I reasonably play it without XIII? (Cuz I heard it wasn't so great).
I enjoyed Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery. If you really want to go back, I'd even say Enchanted Arms.

Lost Odyssey or Tales of Vesperia.
This.
Lost Odyssey is the most "classical". Tales is a tales game which means more action and combo based and you can play it co-op (so not really classic JRPG). I think Tales of Vesperia is one of the best games of this gen and Lost Odyssey is damn good.
Blue Dragon was hot garbage...... not even in the same league as Lost Odyssey or Tales, different tastes I guess........
Tales of Vesperia seems to be pulling way out in front here. Just watched video reviews for it/Lost Odyssey/Eternal Sonata which also seems to confirm it as the one to go for.
Lost Odyssey is pretty great. Also, the writing in Kaim Argonars dreams (past memories) are awesome, it was a huge part of what kept me interested in playing. It was an impressive extra layer in storytelling.
Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata are fine, but I would recommend Lost Odyssey, feels more mature than the others.
I hope that goes well for you. Lost Odyssey had a great concept but it just didn't hold my interest, sorry to say. Have you been warned about the VO? It's pretty rough.
Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia for me. Neither was 'amazing,' but I suppose they're both worth playing.
Lost Odyssey no doubt.
Blue Dragon was okay but I disliked the story, characters and settings, good battle system though (Though Lost Odyssey has a similar, but improved system)
Infinite Undiscovery has an awesome combat and it's very flashy. But the towns are very sterile, the forging mechanics are a bit underwhelming and I didn't care much for the story or the characters
Eternal Sonata is way too easy and the story has terrible pacing issues and it doesn't make much sense either (though maybe that was the point)
These are the ones I've played so far

I disliked lost odyssey.
just watch the memories parts and you'll get the best stuff in the game (the game has some of the more annoying kid characters in a while)
I really like Lost Odyssey and Agree that the memories are the best part and main reason to play the game. So I'd say LO unless you don't like spending your time playing JRPGs to be spent reading short storys. There is more to the game as well, like great classic combat and an excellent soundtrack.
Like most people are saying, you really can't go wrong with Lost Odyssey or Tales of Vesperia. They're both pretty different in tone, style and gameplay so assuming there isn't a crazy circulation shortfall leading to laughable ebay style pricing, just find em both used for cheap!
I loved Tales, but the story in all the Tales games that I've played (which is like 2) never seems to stick with me. So I guess what I'm saying is their stories aren't their strongest points.
Edit: Reading back over the plot on Wikipedia, I vaguely remember it. It actually wasn't a half bad plot. No clue why I seem to forget about the plots in those games.
Lost Odyssey is absolutely beautiful - one of the most impressive traditional style JRPG's I've played. The memories are really well done, they add an extra emotional layer that is wonderfully presented. Well worth checking out.
I can also recommend Eternal Sonata. It has beautiful music and an interesting premise. It's quite traditional, and a great deal of fun. It is also gorgeous to look at.
How is Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Final Fantasy XIII or Resonance of Fate classic jrpgs?
Personally I say Lost Odyssey.
Tales of Vesperia is about as classic as it gets. And it's excellent.
Eternal Sonata and The Last Remnant are also good.
Avoid FFXIII and FFXIII-2, they're awful. Lost Odyssey wasn't great either.
I would go with Tales of Vesperia, but Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are also good.
I am glad that a couple of people have also recommended Cthulu Sanes the World and Breath of Death which are great old style RPGs.
