If everything went according to schedule, the new Xbox 360 dashboard would be live...but it’s not.

It’s unclear what’s caused the hiccup, but Xbox evangelist Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb is providing updates as they come in via Twitter, and said there would be an official update later in the day.

“The timing for Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed. I’ll have a status update later today,” said Hyrb.

Now news that there is going to be news is news

Being in the beta and having a homepage that doesn't default to a useless page full of ads has been the best thing to happen to my Xbox in a long time. Compared to that screw all the other features.

@ReyGitano: Agreed.... As a dude that lost all his data in the past I'm also loving the cloud saves and some of the apps will be useful whenever they come out.

It took 2 hours for any update from Microsoft, via Major Nelson, that the delay would be later today. Even now they can't give us any details, why the delay, time frame for the update, anything.

Microsoft isn't great at getting all the information out. Even the end of Xbox live on the OG Xbox was muddled and misinformed.

Ha, I use that same "Holiday 2008" theme.

At least the apps that were meant to be released today have been so can continue to enjoy it via the preview (LoveFilm app).

if it would be BACK TO BLADES update, then I would antycipate it like crazy man :D

I guess we have no choice but to update if we use xbox live eh? Not a fan of the new dashboard.

I like the new netflix app and the whoe app marketplace, some nice stuff. Navigating the marketplace still sucks.

After all the hype of the last few days this represents an anti-climax of monumental proportions. Or at least it will do if it is delayed beyond today.

Weird. I've been using it for a few weeks and to me it seems like all they have to do is remove the Preview section and push it out to everyone. Not sure what could have gone wrong.

As I told an MS rep at PAX. I can ignore ads anywhere you put them. Just make it easier to get to may games. They did. I am very appreciative of this.

Did they fail their own certification process?

I love that the youtube video says Gameplay. I guess "quick look" isn't really descriptive for youtube.

OH MY GOD TWO HOURS OF NOT HAVING THE NEXT THING HOLY SHIT YOUR XBOX IS REDRINGED AND YOU HAVE 20 MINUTES TO LIVE.

Seriously, two hours. If you are seriously upset about a two hour delay on that bit of news, you need to calm the hell down. Your xbox still works. You'll get your new stuff, and you can't expect them to just instantaneously inform you of the problem, tell you when it'll be fixed, tell you what the actual problem is, and then fix it without just being disappointed and making a fool out of yourself.

I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to know there is a delay, not much point waiting to put that news out for more information, rather than just updating this with the timeline and lack of MS giving a reason because they never say what is causing issues like this, because 90% of their end users could give a fuck why it didn't come, or even that it didn't, in all likelihood.

It seriously doesn't have that many ads - not enough for me to notice anyway. Only thing I have a problem with is that they're still using like 65% of screen space with tiny boxes instead of just making huge lavish full screen menus like the old ZUNE interface or something.

You know what Xbox Live, it's cool. I'm dating a much prettier girl anyway, her name is Skyrim. I spend a lot of time with her so please, take your time coming along. More time to roam around and clear out caves full of bandits.

The only thing truly new in this update is the cloud saves, I wonder if the delay is linked to the online storage. They've done plenty of graphical redesigns in the past.

@FinalDasa: Imagine that you are each person along the chain. Somebody has to notice that it isn't working right, then they have to double-check so that they don't set off any false alarms. Then they have to tell somebody else who has to see for themselves. Then they have to go around to everybody involved and make sure it isn't some small problem that can be fixed instantly. Then they have to talk to the guy in charge of the whole operation who needs to go through the same process. Then he calls somebody else who calls Major Nelson. Then HE has to finish eating or whatever he was doing at the time, call up the head of department to get the relevant information, run his xbox at the same time so that he can confirm that it's not working, contact some other random people that need to know about this, call the PR department to make sure that he is cleared to talk and ONLY THEN can he consider pulling out his phone and tweeting a very carefully worded notice to everyone.

2 hours is probably some kind of record for this process.

They announced that they would launch without any problems.....until Major Nelson took an arrow to the knee
