    Origin

Cassandra "Cassie" Carlton Cage is the only daughter from the short lived marriage of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. Once she was old enough, she joined the Special Forces of her mother to help defend Earthrealm from the hostile forces of both Outworld and the Netherrealm. Though her parents would eventually divorce, she keeps a positive relationship with both of them. She just tends to struggle with appeasing her mother's strict standards, as her superior officer.

Among her small team is her childhood friend Jacqueline Briggs, daughter of Jax Briggs, and commanded by Johnny, her father.

    Creation

Cassie Cage is a main character from the Mortal Kombat game franchise that was originally developed by Midway Games, then later by NetherRealm Studios and WB Games. Cassie's first appearance was in Mortal Kombat X Mobile, which is a promotional tie-in game to the primary counsel release version of Mortal Kombat X. Both were released in April of 2015, a week apart from each other. She is voiced by Ashly Burch.

In Mortal Kombat 11 she is voiced by Erica Lindbeck.

    Character Evolution

Cassie is designed to be a fusion character of both her parents. She's as ill-tempered and hot blooded as Sonya, and has the razor-sharp wit of Johnny. The developers wanted to avoid making her a character that just contained various moves of her parents. They instead created her to be a fighter that just contained a flare to her style that would invoke her lineage.

Her design changed slightly from the first glimpse that was seen in early concept art for Mortal Kombat X. Her hair was originally shown hanging down, but it was soon replaced with her hair tied up and showing her undercut-style.

    Mortal Kombat X

Twenty years after Cassie's parents and Raiden defeated and sealed Shinnok into his own amulet, Cassie's squad was tasked with approaching Kuai Liang, Sub Zero; and his newly reformed Lin Kuei Clan. They were to bring him in to check his allegiances, but they soon found themselves surrounded in a trap. She fought with Sub Zero and lost. However, this had all just been a training exercise for her and the team that Johnny had set up with Sub Zero.

Immediately afterward, Sonya sent priority orders regarding Outworld refugees swarming into Earthrealm to escape the civil war between Emperor Kotal Kahn's army and Mileena's rebels. Sonya sent them to Outworld to confirm with Kotal Kahn that Mileena has been using Shinnok's amulet. This nearly turned into a diplomatic incident that threatened the Earthrealm's non-aggression pact with Outworld when Kung Jin interfered with a public execution.

They instead found themselves in a situation where they needed to prove to Kotal Kahn that Earthrealm wasn't responsible for Mileena's possession of the amulet. Cassie joined D'Vorah to infiltrate the rebel camp to steal the amulet, and they also captured Mileena. Once they returned, Cassie's team found themselves captured and imprisoned as Kahn took the amulet for himself. Takeda helped them escape, but their timing made it appear that they were in league with D'Vorah, who had just betrayed Kahn to give the amulet to Quan Chi. Once they escaped pursuit, they attempted to follow D'Vorah, but they were ordered to return by Sonya.

They arrived back on Earth to find the Special Forces were defeated by the revived Shinnok, Sonya was down, and Johnny was taken captive to Raiden's Sky Temple. Their jet was grounded by Shinnok infecting the Jinsei, the Earth's life force; and witnessed Kotal Kahn and his army arriving. Cassie's squad attempted an ambush, but they were soon overwhelmed. They were rescued by Sub Zero and the Lin Kuei.

At the Sky Temple, Cassie fought through Sindel and Kitana to reach the chamber of the Jinsei. She found D'Vorah had cocooned her father, and Shinnok had absorbed the life force of Earth. She summoned the power of her Mediterranean war cult heritage to save Johnny and defeat Shinnok. They were able to save the Earth by placing Raiden into the corrupted Jinsei to purify it.

    Weapons & Equipment

As a military officer, Cassie uses a range of military style artillery but is just as proficient in hand-to-hand combat.

    Twin Pistols

Cassie uses a pair of twin semi-auto pistols that she keeps in a double holster on her back.

    Nightstick

Cassie has a metallic nightstick baton that she'll use during grab attacks and strike her opponents between their legs.

    Missile Strikes

Using her Special Forces tech, Cassie can call in pin point or homing missile strikes.

    Powers & Abilities

Both Johnny and Cassie are descendents of a Mediterranean war cult that were bred as warriors to the gods. This gives them an ability to summon a green aura that makes them immune to some of the Neatherrealm magic of the elder god Shinnok.

    Variations

The concept of fighter variations was first introduced in Mortal Kombat X. These could have drastic changes to the move set of a character and even included subtle visual alterations. This could allow the player to have three different play styles for a single character.

    Spec Ops

This version of Cassie uses support moves that calls in missile strikes.

    Hollywood

This version of Cassie wears sunglasses and has more flourish to her fighting moves.

    Brawler

This version of Cassie was designed to lean more toward close combat and was strongly based on a UFC influence.

    X-Ray

The X-Ray technique was first introduced in Mortal Kombat 9 as a super technique used when the game's attack meter is at full. By performing certain conditions, the player can lock their opponent into a cut scene that zooms into the enemy to show the muscles, skeleton, or internal organs suffering massive damage. Although, this has no effect on the opponent's ability to continue fighting.

    Mortal Kombat X

Testi-kill: The Testi-kill X-Ray move of Cassie begins with her blinding the opponent with a flare as she drops to a splitting groin punch, strikes the doubling over opponent at the ears with the butt of both pistols, then flips them around to a double shot to the eyes.

On male opponents, the testicles can be seen exploding from the force of her punch.

    Fatalities

    Mortal Kombat X

    • Fatality 1 - Bubble Head: Cassie starts this fatality by quickly shooting the opponent in both kneecaps then a single shot to the forehead. She then casually walks up to her opponent, places her gum over the forehead wound, and the blood fills the bubblegum until it bursts.
    • Fatality 2 - Selfie: Cassie uses her nightstick to strike at her opponent's jaw with enough force to break and dislocate the jaw from the top of the skull, causing it to hang open grotesquely. She then grabs the opponent by the head and holds her face close as she takes a picture with her phone. The camera then pulls back to show the image posted on a social-media site called "Friendships". Various, random comments begin to scroll in reaction to the photo. Some from other Mortal Kombat characters, and the rest from random users.

    Brutalities

    Endings

    Mortal Kombat X (non-canon)

Raiden tasks Cassie with hunting down a soul stealer. After finding his whereabouts, Cassie fights a tense battle but defeats him in the end. Holding onto life by a thread, he says his name is Shujinko.
