Games of My Life - Mario Kart DS

So, after a month iatus I finnally made another "Games of my Life" blog post. Let's talk about Mario Kart DS

So recently, about a week ago, my sister took my DS to school while I was sleeping and someone took it from her backpack when she was not looking, so now I have no DS. Nontheless, it made me remind of those times, four years ago, when I played Mario Kart with my best friend.

Kind of a fun story, I never actually bought this game. The story that follows is the story of Valdemar and his DSs. So, there's this friend of mine, called Valdemar, who bought two DSs, and a bunch of games, he then sold one for 20 bucks, and bought it again for 60, gave it for free for another friend of mine with Mario Kart, so he had people to play with him, he bought the DS again, but for some reason he didn't took the game. He then sold the DS to my best friend for 15 bucks with Metroid Prime, and my other friend gave me Mario Kart. This is the story behind why Mario Kart DS is in here.

The following year me and my two friends did only one thing... days and days playing Mario Kart. To be honest now I am kinda sick of it, but I have to admit, that game was an amazing game and the best racing game for the DS. I still remember playing with my best friend for one hour the koopa beach map, while we were trading the charger because both our DSs were low on battery and we just had one charger.

Good times. And this is why Mario Kart DS is one my games of my life!

Games of My Life - Silent Hill 2

Yes, it's time for another "Games of My Life".  This time I'll talk about Silent Hill 2

No Caption Provided

Fast forward a couple of years since I found myself playing Worms, Crash or even Sonic. Two years ago a friend of mine borrowed me his copy of Silent Hill 2. As a future writer/game developer/something that gives me the change to show my stories to the world, the events that were about to unfold changed my way of storytelling and gamming.

Silent Hill 2 is unlike any other game I've played, and that includes all the Silent Hills I've played so far (1 to 4).  The story is so complex and amazing, everything has a meaning, every monster, every character and every place.

Genuinely scary, Silent Hill 2 put us on the shoes of James Sunderland,  a troubled man, haunted by his past, sent to Silent Hill to search is dead wife, who somehow was able to send him a letter. I don't want to say much about the story, because I don't want to ruin it for future players, since that's the strongest point in the game, but let's just say that James has to fight a lot of monsters and that everything is not what it looks like at first in this quiet little town.

The soundtrack is amazing and I easily give this entire series the award for best original soundtrack ever! (And I'm a rock fan...) . Actually, I'm listening to the  OST right now.
But don't let my words decide, listen for yourself:

Silent Hill 2 was the best horror game I played, and although you are going to see more horror games on my blog, none of them was as fantastic and scary as this one.
I have a couple of memories from this game... hours and hours of trying to open closed doors! I laugh of it now, but when i was playing the game I was frustrated.
Seriously now, this game made an impact on me, not because of the gameplay, not because of inovation, and not because of his graphics, all of that was normal for the time and not especially ground breaking, but the story.
And this is why i choose Silent Hill 2 as one of the games of my life

Games of My Life - Worms Armagedoon

New post!
Today it's all about Worms!

No Caption Provided

To be honest i could chose Worms 1,2, Armageddon or World Party for this, but since Armageddon was the one I have more memories it's the one who takes the prize.

The mechanic of Worms is simple and easy, shoot all the enemy worms. It's a game that i can play with my sister or my younger cousins without any problem, and that's great because this game is the best mutiplayer game I have ever played. To be honest I don't even like playing Worms alone that much. I usually just play with my sister.
The graphics don't matter here, simple 2d mechanic is enough, proof of that is Worms 3D and Worms 4.

The best memories I had with this game is simply hearing those Brazilian voices. Seriously, if you understood what they were saying but speaking European Portuguese you'd laugh your ass off.
It was also always fun to watch everyone fuck things up, it's the only game that doesn't make me angry at all when i lose (can't say the same thing about my sister, but that's life...)
And of course, the best weapon to ever been in a video game, the Holy Hand Grenade. Hearing that "Hallelujah" and seeing the destruction of that weapon imediatly after is highly rewarding even if you just ended up killing half your team.

And that is why I chose Worms Armageddon as one of the games of my life

Games of my life - Tekken 3

Hello, welcome to my newest entry in the "Games of My Life" series, today I'll talk about Tekken 3

No Caption Provided

Tekken 3 was probably the second most played game in my PS1 collection, the first being Crash Bandicoot 3. It was the best game to play with friends and family with lots of different characters for everyone and graphics that were fantastic for the time Tekken 3 became my favorite fighting game ever.

I have found memories playing this game with my best friend, our fights were evenly matched and we could stay hours playing this game and never get tiered, actually i remember a time when i and my cousin chose both Dr. B and we fought for an entire hour because our characters were always falling in the ground.  I also remember my mother defeating with an epic button smash that was even able to do some combos I had never seen.

My favorite characters were Xiaoyu, King, Paul, Nina, Eddy and Jin. But i liked them all, most of the characters were fantastic and could be deadly in the right hands.

And this is why i chose Tekken 3 as one of the games of my life

Games of My Life - Sonic Adventure DX

Hi and welcome to another "Games Of My Life" episode

Today i'll talk about Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut

I still remember when my dad gave me this game. I actually said: "Sonic? I'm too old for that!" even though i had only 12 years old.Truth be told, i didn't even played a Sonic game before, and the only thing about sonic i knew was that cartoon show "Sonic Underground" wich i saw somethimes when i was little.

Yet, my dad instaled it and i played it... for months. To my suprise the game was completely adicitive and sometimes even hard. With six difrent characters with difrent gameplays and stories that conected with each other to reveal the secret about Tikal and Chaos.

Many may say it's just a simple remake of the Dreamcast original, but it is not, with the addition of the game gear games ( wich let me play the originals for the first time) and the mission mode, it has more gameplay hours than the Dreamcast counter-part.

Although I didn't spent hours with my friends playing this game, i do have memories of playing this game alone and trying to solve it's puzzles, like how to gain acess to the last level of the Sonic story or how t go to the second level of Tails story. And of course, the last level, with the epic battle between Perfect Chaos and Super Sonic.

And this is why i chose Sonic Adventure DX as one of the games of my life.

Games of My Life - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

Hi and welcome to my second "Games of My Life" post.

This time illl talk about Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

I've played alot of games and i've liked more than fingers can count. Silent Hill, Sonic, Tekken...all of them are videogame series i love. But when someone asks me: "Whats your favorite game of all time?" i dont even need to think to anwser, Crash Bandicoot 3 takes that prize.

When I got my PS1 for the first time, i became the most famous kid on the street, all of the guys would come to my house or would stuck in the window just to see what this console was all about. Yet, the only game i had was Demo 1, so i was stuck with short levels of fantastic games. The one i played the most was level 10 of Crash Bandicoot 3, so , when Christmas came and i recieved a couple of games, i was really happy to find Crash 2 and 3 in them. I never played much of the second one, but the third was a masterpiece. All the levels were difrent and fantastic.  Egipt, the medieval era, and the future, playing on foot, in a moto and  a plane were just a couple of examples of where we could go and what we could do in the game.

My favorite memories if this game are simply all of them, playing alone, with my sister, my mom, my dad, and of course, my best friend who would come everyday to play this game with me, even though we had already finished the game more that 5 times.

Yet, i have one sad memory, as I was playing this game with my friend the game went to the pause menu itself. It was weird but we tought it was something with the controller, it was not... "Fuck, the game's broken!" I thought. Now, i would preffer it was that, but when i tried to play another game my PS stop reading the cds. I still don't know what happened. I kept it for another 5 years as a memory but my mother eventually threw it out.

This are the reasons i chose Crash Bandicoot 3 not only as one of the games of my life, but THE game of my life.

Games of my life: Lemmings

Games of my life: Lemmings

Hi and welcome to my new blog series, games of my life. In this series i'll talk about videogames that were important to my life one way or another.

The first one is Lemmings.

This was (and is) my dad's favorite game, so it was natural that it would be one of the first games he would try to put me playing it. When i got my first pc this was the only game i had, not that that bothered me, it was adictive and i had the Playstation to play all the other games.

The first levels were rather simple and I, at that time a 7 or 8 years old kid could get trough them with few to no problems at all. But those first levels are just an ilusion for whats to come. As you get trough them they got more complex, and altough I already knew what each item did it was incredibly hard to know what to use or how to stop those pesky lemmings.

I remember all of the first levels because they were the easiest to get trough and so i did them frequently, but i also remember seeing my dad playing the last level and finish it. As for me, I still haven't done that achivement. Another memory i cherish is that YUPPY sound you hear when your lemming finally gets trough the level, i loved to hear, not one, but 100 or 200 lemmings get in to the cave at the same time. YYYYYYUUUUUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYUYYUYUYUYUPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPIPI

And this is why i chose Lemmings as one of the games of my life.
