    Overview

    Atlus USA's headquarters are located in Irvine, California. Atlus is a privately held company and subsidiary of Sega.

    The company was founded in 1991 as Asuka, with the mission of publishing high quality role-playing games for a North American audience. The most important part of this mission was the localization of these titles and the company gained a reputation for it's excellent translations and ability to speak to the North American game market.

    Shin Megami Tensei is the leading RPG franchise for the company, developed in-house by R&D Studio 1 at Atlus' parent company. The franchise is known for it's mature themes in each installment.

    Popular Atlus franchises include Shin Megami Tensei, Disgaea, Etrian Odyssey, Trauma Center, and Wizardry.

    SMT: Persona 3 and Persona 4 were successful overseas for innovating within the traditional JRPG formula while still keeping what makes JRPGs appealing.     In July 2011, Atlus published Catherine for PS3 and Xbox 360, which was developed by the same team that made Persona 4. It was featured in Giantbomb's Quick Look EX and the Giantbomb Quick Look Catherine Reveal. It has been the company's largest release to date, and their first multiplatform release of the current generation.
