Picking the gender of your character can help immerse you in the game world. Sometimes this leads to different abilities in-game, sometimes it means nothing at all.
A Gender Slider is an interface that allows players to smoothly transition the appearance of a character from an extreme representation of a female to an extreme representation of a male, as well as any transitional point along the way.
Giant Insects are insects and other 'bugs' that are far larger than in the real world. Some are about half the size of a human, others are bigger than buildings. Larger than life or gigantic insects are a common element in many video games, especially those of the RPG Genre.
A characteristic many game characters share when their eyes emit a colored light instead of what a regular eye should look like. This is often evident in robots and characters possessed by some evil force.
Whether it be Mario vs. Bowser, Jedi vs. Sith, Link vs. Ganon, or Elves vs. Orcs, the forces of good are in an eternal battle with the hordes of evil.
Greatest hits is a general term for re-releases of games which have sold a certain number of copies, as part of a program managed by the console manufacturer.

In some games, either after completing the main game or as part of the game itself, players must replay a harder version of the same level. This is not classified as a different difficulty level, as the levels usually add new mechanics or enemies.
Havok Physics (Havok) is a physics API developed by Irish company Havok and released in 2000. It is used in video games as a physics engine, allowing for realistic interactions between in-game entities.
More effective than any hospital. These games let you heal damage; ranging from a black eye to a gunshot wound, just by having a snack.
Health is a value that gauges how much damage players can take in a game before they die or pass out. Also known as life in some games. Health is usually represented by a bar or a percentage instead of an exact amount. Found in most non sport games
A console game is high definition if it operates at a resolution of at least 720p, or 1280x720. A console able to achieve this resolution is HD-capable. For a variety of reasons, the term does not apply to PC games.
A hub is the central location from which a player can venture out into different areas of a game. It is often used as a clever way of masking loading between levels or worlds.
Humans are bipedal, sapient primates capable of abstract reasoning, language, and emotions.
Illithids or mind flayers are monsters originating from D&D who use their psychic powers to shatter their foes' minds. Some become their thralls while others are simply a snack as they crack open their skulls and feast on their brains.
A fake wall that disappears when struck by a weapon
An enemy in the PS3 game Demon's Souls. The Imperial Spy is a fast-moving and powerful enemy.
A situation where the player-controlled character loses their life immediately. The quickness of that demise is often a stark departure from the balance of power, and sometimes the rules, established by the developers during the rest of the game.
A certain amount of frames (or time) where the player cannot be damaged, usually after taking an action such as dodging or rolling
Horror games influenced predominantly by the look, feel, and themes of Japanese horror cinema, or non-horror games that allude to the cultural horror aesthetic. J-Horror, or psychological horror, is sometimes classified as a sub-genre of survival horror.
A heavily armored soldier in the service of a lord or cause. Typically a champion of good and a defender of the innocent.
When the player/enemy leap towards the enemy/player, effectively dealing damage in the same turn.
Games that allow the player to choose which level to play next, rather than a fixed linear order.

Short for mana points or magic points, the resource required to use spells or other special skills in many role-playing games.

A meter measured much like HP that depletes when you use magic, and depending on the game, regenerates over time or can only be regenerated through rest or potions. Mana is usually displayed as a blue bar beneath it's red counterpart, the HP bar.
