Whoops, I chose Resident Evil 7, but I didn't read the question correctly. I'm not actually sure where I'd place my favorite games of this year yet, and I'm just now playing Breath of the Wild. My favorite games so far though are Resident Evil 7, Outlast 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, and Prey 2. I also liked What Remains of Edith Finch, but I'm not sure I'd add it in the top five, but it sticks with me as a fine game that I played this year so far. I am thinking Breath of the Wild will be added. There are some games on there that I still want to play kind of but didn't because... I am not actually sure I want to play them. Ghost Recon is one of them. There are some games that are available to me since my brother buys games as well but I have less interest in personally (Persona 5, Gravity Rush 2, and Nier Automata). So, I'm going to say the biggest issues of my favorite games because that's easier than talking about what's great.
Resident Evil's biggest issue is just its length. It was fine the first go as I explored everything, but the game can be really short, enough so that you get an achievement/trophy for beating it under four or five hours. Outlast 2's issue was that some moments I felt there could clearly be combat, and so going hand-in-hand, the early parts of the game (for about two hours) didn't give me a great impression. Horizon Zero Dawn was great, but my expectations were a bit higher when it comes to the story. Nioh may be my favorite game this year perhaps in hindsight so far, though it may be the one with the most issues even though most negligible. The game repeats the same levels, the same boss, and enemy types, and I didn't think they gave the player any reason to change up the way you fight. I used everything that has to do with heavy style and went through it fine.
Prey 2 was great up until the last few hours when you're already done exploring every nook and cranny of the interesting environments and all that's left is an okay main story, where they throw an abundance of enemies at you to block your way of progress. By the ending, I was kind of turned off, but the many hours before was great. I'd probably add Edith Finch in my top ten. I generally just like playing 'walking simulators' since they often break up my time playing other genres, and Edith Finch is one of, if not the best walking simulator I've played as it does more than just have you walk around. The biggest issue is just the early moments where the frame rate is a bit choppy. I don't know where Zelda lies.
I will say however about Prey 2, it may be the game I most 'forget' about by the end of the year, not in the sense that I won't remember what happened in it, only the one where I go 'oh yeah, that game came out this year.' It took up much of my time, I believe I spent fifty or so hours on it, but it's also the game that least permeates my mind.
Edit - Shoot! I totally forgot about Rime! I really liked that game.
