The bombcast has taught me that the only way to do ads is to acknowledge them. I think you could go with or without the announcement, but I'd steer clear of a surprise. Other than it just sucking, surprise ads made me quit TV.

I'm sure you've heard this from other premium members, but, I really like the bombcast ads. To me, it's just more content. You deliver it in a funny way. And laughing is why I subscribed in the first place. I understand video ads are more likely to be trailers or something, but maybe you can find a way to make it 2human instead of CORP INTERUPT_insert money, but anyways I think all this is probably making a bigger deal of it than it is. Will be fine no doubt.

I honestly hope everything the fellas are planning comes to fruition. Who could say no to more awesome content? Anyways, it's sure to be a great year for Giantbomb!

Well, Jared Rea DID just leave Twitch... he could be brought on as the senior VGCW correspondent.

I'm just hoping they don't hire a cyborg or robot. That would spell certain doom for all of us. Honestly I've been extremely apprehensive about all this whole replacing Ryan business. I know it's something that needs to happen but every time I think about it it's like being stabbed in the heart like uh uh uh uh uh. In a weird way I'm sort of thankful for Jeff keeping his process sort of on the down low so I don't have to think about it but now I kind of have to. I trust Jeff's instincts for hiring since the site began so I'll leave the hard part to him.

At some point Jeff has to start thinking about who is going to be at Giantbomb/take over once he leaves. It's going to happen one day............

"mid-roll video ads" sounds like the thing that will push people to either go premium or ad-block.

Anyone that would conisder ad-blocking on this site is probably already doing it.

well i could've sworn i remember on one of the Jar Time's he talked about how he wanted have more people making content on GB, and i think i know what you're referencing as well as engineering positions are open as well. and yea thats true about Danny O Dwyer.

At the end of the day though, Seems our lord came in to the thread and clarified things, so we'll see what happens, exciting times though!.

@mrfluke: GS would never let Danny go to GB. They're still trying to move more into video, and Danny is EASILY the best guy on camera over there. There's a reason they brought him over to the US, and it's not to join GB. I'd love it too, but it's not happening.

People who have been following Jeff Green's Dark Souls playthrough say that he has gotten a new job, but that he hasn't said what it is yet. So he's probably lost too.

@milkman: The thread the Anon on Tumblr was probably talking about was a thread where they talked about review sites that are now dead, and some people went into that thread and talked a lot about GB being dead in a year for some reason. It should be mentioned that those were probably the same people who were convinced that GB would be dead in a year after CBSi bought them (there were a LOT of doom and gloom on GAF when that happened, and some here on GB). So yeah, it was dumb.

I had an idea for the site that involves GB basically outsourcing reviews ala Gamespot but to community members who can get compensated for their work. The vetted legit user reviews would be showcased on the front page and be treated similarly to staff reviews. This essentially makes it so reviews can exist for games the GB staff otherwise wouldn't get around to reviewing and gives users who actually want to pursue careers in this sort of journalism gain real experience they can put on their resumes and make a couple bucks in the process.

@mrfluke: No doubt. As for your point about the engineering position: I doubt any engineer at CBSi is employed at any of the individual sites (GB, GS, Metacritic, GameFAQ etc.). They're probably employees of CBSi itself, since they all seem to work on multiple sites. That probably goes for Alexis too. So any open position in the engineering department won't really affect the GB Budget, I believe. And yeah, Jeff has been open about wanting new content producers.

As for Jeff Green, my guess is that he's not an option. He said that he'd love to work with the GB guys in some way (a lot of "mutual respect" between Jeff and the duders, if I remember the quote correctly), but he seems to have accepted some other job. It'll be interesting to see what it is: He seemed burned out by the PR side of things and wanted to do more podcasting etc. again. Best case scenario is him getting a senior editorial position at GS, which would maybe enable him to join in on some GB content now and again.

Also, Jared has quit Twitch and has a job lined up. I wouldn't mind him coming to GB, he has always worked well with the crew and the community seems to be a lot more positive towards him than they were in the beginning.

to the point about the engineers, i do say that is pretty resourceful to be able to just have a pool of engineers to pull for projects when needed.

to your point about jeff green, yea heard about that on his blog that he was kinda fed up of working on the other side and wanted to get back on the journalism side of things, would be curious to see where he lands, i dont see him working at say ign or polygon.

and yea Jared really improved a lot with GB, i did honestly find him annoying in the beginning, but he really became entertaining to listen to later on.

and we speculate cause we care :P.

im not gonna ask you for hot scoopz, but if you are right, then if things line up for Jeff Gerstmann to get that CBSI money to hire people, then its really going to be some unknowns in the sense that its going to be people that leave their current jobs to go work for GB, i cant possibly think of anyone unemployed right now that would Mesh well with the staff.

@mrfluke: Yeah, I always liked Jared, but I think his "internet culture speak" rubbed some people the wrong way in his first content with the site, which he has toned down the last couple of years. I think that helped. I generally enjoy him and wouldn't mind them hiring him at all. But of course this is just me speculation with no real info to back it up.

And yeah, for a big company like CBSi it makes no sense to have engineers/designers employed by a single website. Alexis has now worked on the redesign of GB, GB, Comoc Vine and GameFAQ. Let's just hope that some of the engineers get to focus on GB a bit more now, something like the Wiki really needs to be updated all the time. It'll be interesting to see how the new video player works, which is apparently being rolled out this week. I don't watch any video content on GS, and they don't really do much long form content, so I haven't tried it out yet.

If you believe in the concept of infinite universes, then there is one where Adam Sessler found his home with Giant Bomb instead of Rev3. I wouldn't like to live in that universe (as much as I like Adam), but I sure would like to visit. And there are at least a few hundred splinter universes where Jeff did leave the site. I never want to know what that would've looked like.

In any case, Jeff Gerstmann is among a small number of Internet personalities that I respect and trust, so I will sit back and wait and watch to see how he proceeds. I'm confident that he'll do us proud.

They don't need another ready-made personality. They need another video guy. That will free up Vinny and Drew to be on camera more instead of behind it.

Somebody mentioned that they still need a replacement for Ryan. Vinny is that guy. Drew moves to Vinny's spot. They need a replacement for Drew.

If it means Giant Bomb survives and/or thrives I am 100% ok with them increasing the number of ads.

That's true. Just from what I have seen from Twitch streams with sponsors is that the mid video ad roll losses about half the viewers. I know it's anecdotal evidence. I can say that if I wasn't a subscriber I would be upset at mid-roll ads.

Wouldn't the mid-roll ads have to be more permanent right? They can't just pull a Google ad or site sponsor ad midstream. It'll be more like those stamp people, who will forever be advertised and immortalized, on the Bombcasts.

This is all what I pretty much expected. Last year saw two major blows to the site, in budget and in production.

With E3 equipment taking a chunk out of the budget in the theft and then the unfortunate loss of Ryan.

With a new budget allows for new things to happen.

Also, it really bums me out that the guys don't interact on the forums for the website that they run. All the other sites I pay for have the staff interact with us.

His post made me feel really happy about where the site is. I hope it's a good year for Giant Bomb with some growth and new things happening. Gives me hope after last year's loss of Ryan and Dave's moving on to a new project. I'm looking forward to new things!

I figured I've established myself on here enough to be fairly trusted, but at the very least, as of the new year, Jeff Green was heavily leaning towards a job that wasn't Giant Bomb. It may have changed, but I have no reason to believe so.

I won't say anymore than that because I don't want to steal his thunder or fuck up his plans, but I have reason to strongly believe that he's not coming here. Make of that what you will. I won't say any more. I only mention it because I love this site (and love Jeff Green), and thought it'd be nice to manage expectations for both.

But who knows, maybe in a month or two I'll be pleasantly surprised alongside the rest of you.
