Overview
Previously Europe's biggest gaming trade show was Gamescon in Leipzeg, Germany but in 2009 Gamescon became focused solely on MMO's and mobile games while Gamescom (with an M) became the general games show.
2009 was the first year of Gamescom and it attracted 245,000 visitors (228,000 consumers and 17,000 trade visitors) and a total of 458 exhibiting companies. That makes GC the largest games fair in the world by number of attendees. Unlike other gaming conventions like
E3, Gamescom is open to the public as well as media.
