The games are available on multiple platforms including the GameCube, PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The series revolves around Agent 47 (usually referred to as "47" or "Mr. 47"), an assassin-for-hire, whose flawless record has earned a sort of legendary status and placed in him in high demand amongst the wealthy and elite.
The core objective in each level is to kill one or more assigned targets. A player can complete a level with raw firepower, but other alternatives are often presented. Such as creating traps, planting a bomb or poisoning the victims food.
Story
Agent 47 is the 47th clone created by Otto Wolfgang Ort-Meyer. He became an assassin for the International Contract Agency by Diana Burnwood. He was tasked to kill Lee Hong, Pablo Ochoa, Frantz Fuchs, Arkadij Jegorov, and Dr. Kovacs. After he killed them, he realized he is a clone of Otto Wolfgang Ort-Meyer, Lee Hong, Pablo Ochoa, Frantz Fuchs and Arkadij Jegorov. Agent 47 came back to his homeplace to find Otto using armies of 48 clones. He defeated the clones and snapped the neck of his creator. To seek peace, 47 went to Sicily. There, he met Father Emilio Vittoro. A man named Giuseepe Guillani kidnapped Vittoro. 47 rejoins the Agency to kill Guillani. Guillani was killed but Vittoro was not rescued. 47 travels to various contries including Russia, Japan, Afghanistan, Malaysia, and India to do contracts. 47 realized that Vittoro's kidnapping is a setup by Sergei Zavorokto. Sergei is a brother of one of 47's five fathers. The targets were involved in a transaction of a nuclear warhead. 47 later kills Sergei and frees Vittoro. 47 eventually becomes an assassin. At Paris, 47 killed Richard Delahunt and Alvaro D'Alvade. Just after he killed them and just before he came to a hotel, he got shot in the liver by a French police officer. 47 had a near death experience which shows screwed up editions of his memories. He was later revived by an ICA medic. He escaped the hotel, killed Albert Fournier (part of his contract) and came to the airport where he met Diana Burnwood in person. Diana informed 47 that the Franchise is a threat to the ICA yet again. The Franchise is somewhat connected to international governments and has an army of albino clones.
Trivia
The Hitman Franchise has been known for it's graphic violence and dark tones. Hitman: Blood Money is arguably the most violent game in the series to date, however, it wasn't the actual game that came under fire by the media, but its advertising campaign.
