Overview
Beam Software was founded in 1978 and operated independently in its home city of Melbourne, Australia developing video games for consoles from 1988 onwards. It produced many games for 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit consoles, including the SNES versions of Shadowrun and Super Smash TV, and was one of the most prolific Australian game developers of the 1990s.
In 1999 it was purchased by Atari SA (still known as Infogrames) and renamed Melbourne House. In 2006, it was sold off again to prominent Australian developers Krome Studios, which turned Melbourne House into Krome Studios Melbourne. In 2010, Krome Studios downsized most of their staff and dismantled many of their studios.
