Mirror's Edge is a brave foray into a new genre with a few gripes 0

Mirror's Edge is a first person free-running game from Battlefield veterans DICE Studios.  There has been much skepticism about the game thinking the gameplay and controls couldn't work.  Well they do and Mirror's Edge is worth the money.    Mirror's Edge is about a runner named Faith who is trying to find out who framed her sister for murder.  While the story isn't super deep, it does what it does well, with some decent looking 2-d cutscenes.    Like I said earlier, gameplay was a big quest...

You may not like it. I love it. 0

Stylized awesomeness. One of my personal favorites, Mirror's Edge is a free running game played in the FPS perspective. One thing that will catch your eye is the art style. It's mesmerizing to say the least. While the story and combat fall short almost instantly the running aspect is nearly perfect. There are still alot of flaws in this game, but for me they were so easy to overlook I barely noticed them. From leaping across buildings to wall-running scaffolding this game is entertaining and wor...

Lacklustre ending spoils what is a beautiful, original game. 0

This review is spoiler free.  I've put off playing Mirror's Edge for a couple of years now, mostly because of the mediocre reception it received. When it appeared in the Steam sale for only £3 I thought I'd give it a go. I've been genuinely surprised by the quality of this game, the way the free running works with the mouse and keyboard controls is really satisfying and you are constantly left  holding your breath as you go for that massive jump between skyscrapers.   The graphics definitely des...

    Mirror's Edge is a flawed gem 0

Mirror's Edge is probably one of the most unique titles released by a major publisher this generation, taking the first-person perspective normally reserved for shooters and using it to craft a game focused on speed and movement in the shoes of freerunning outlaw Faith. For being based on a genre where platforming sections are almost universally criticized, Mirror's Edge goes to a lot of effort to make things satisfying. There is a strong sense of momentum to player movement, particularly as Fait...

A very good rental but not worth purchasing. 0

I was crazy psyched for this game since I heard about it in the weeks preceding E3, but unfortunately feel pretty let down. The game has gotten better the more I played but some of the puzzles are much easier than I initially thought. For instance, I though I needed to do one of those wall climb 180 degree turn then jump moves followed by a wall run then perpendicular jump to get somewhere when in reality I just didn't see a ladder around the corner. Kinda frustrating when you are waiting for a ...

Mirror’s Edge is an acquired taste. 0

Mirror’s Edge is a first person action platformer by EA’s DICE branch, and tries to mix up the ordinary linear shootyness of the average first person game by allowing the player to maneuver the environment in never-before-seen ways, and centering the game around traversing the levels themselves rather than constantly killing things. Mirror’s Edge can best be described as a first person “Prince Of Persia” set in the future. You are Faith, a refreshingly non-sexualised female protagonist who is a ...

    Mirror's Edge Review 0

Argh, God damnit you son of a bitch!Holy shit, that was awesome! Those are the two main thoughts that were racing through my head throughout every stage of Mirror's Edge.  Mirror's Edge is a first person platforming game in the vain of the Prince of Persia series.  You are tasked with running across rooftops, corridors, and air ducts, trying to find out who framed your sister for murder. The game is beautiful, when it wants to be.  The city and rooftops all look fantastic when you can see them in ...

This game looked amazing. And that was what it was.I really enjoyed playing this.I started the game, and the training in the beginning was boring, and really easy. The good things i really liked was the first person mode. That makes the game real.I also liked the graphics. They were amazing. They were almost no glitches at all, which is okay.I dont like unreality things too much. The cool thing is that the weapons are only pistols, but they are still cool. The sound effects are great. When you talk in a rad...

    Eagerly anticipating Mirror's Edge 2 0

It cannot be overstated how apparent it is that Mirror's Edge is a labor of love.  Every part of the game is finely crafted, from the musical cues to the graphics to even the death animation.  The voice acting is for the most part superb, and of course the mechanics are reasonably finely tuned. So where does Mirror's Edge stumble?  Two main points–– the story and the action. The premise of Mirror's Edge is promising, if somewhat banal.  There exist runners that serve as a counterculture to the uto...

The awesome gets interupted more than it should 0

When I first found out about Mirror's Edge I was incredibly excited for it. Finally a game where everything was about free running. I gobbled up every piece of information that I came across, and it was without a doubt a must have game for me. But then the game was released, and the reviews started pooring in. And the more I read about it, the more doubtful I became about buying it. My hype turned into uncertainty. Fast forward several months, and I have finally decided to purchase the game. And...

Or you can just watch my video review -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBdR-X3dj18Yes, it is a shameless way to garner hits.Mirror’s Edge is first and foremost, a platformer. Sure, you can shoot a gun, but for the most part, it’s all about jumping over and across stuff, hoping you don’t miss your mark and die. That pretty much describes what a platformer generally is, but DICE attempts to do it all in the first-person perspective. That is not an ideal viewpoint to do any kind of jumping, but fo...

    I HAVE A LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH FAITH! 1

I HAVE A LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH FAITH!Mirror's Edge is DICE's latest attempt to convince us gamers that they can actually make a good single player game and aren't just some fantastic multplayer developer loved by most (if not all) PC gamers. This latest attempt offers you the experience of doing some parkour which is a form of free running. It's an odd concept for a game at first sight but it actually works out pretty well. You play as Faith, a beautiful female who excells at Parkour and a...

Some hailed it as the next Assassin's Creed, writing it off as another victim of the hype machine, I on the other hand called it EA's kinky little bit on the side, and boy does she live up to her reputation. I recently purchased Mirror's Edge and let me tell you this was one of the best financial decisions I've made in a while, trust me, no where else can u get 7 hours alone with an asian gymnast for less than £40...except possibly communist China. Once the initial excitement stirred up when Dic...

Running has never been so hard 0

Let me preface this by saying there are very few games in this world that make me want to throw my controller or induce an incredible rage that requires me to stop playing immediately and go do something to blow off some steam. Street Fighter II, ironically one of my favorite games, can turn me into a wild beast. Lately, no game has really angered me to this extreme, but here we are again with one of the most stress-inducing and frustrating games I’ve ever played, Mirror’s Edge. DICE, the develo...

Its a game in developement! 0

(Provided you all know the basis of what the game is) Now i'm not one to play many first or even 3rd person shooters but,  this game got my attention. The creators in this game got one thing right and that was the fluidity of the movements this really gives the game its essence. The main downfall to the game was the fighting sequence. In the game you have to get from one place to the other delivering packages of information. In many parts of this game officers of the law, shall we call them come...

Not as deep as I would have liked, but whats there is great 0

Mirror's Edge, is a first person platform for the PS3. It follows into the footsteps of games like Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider, except its all from the first person perspective this time. In many aspects the game is quite a bit like Breakdown, which had first person platforming as well, but with Mirror's Edge there is a much stronger focus on running and momentum and much less focus on fighting. When it comes to the basic gameplay, Mirror's Edge succeeds on most accounts. The running and jump...

    Mirror's Edge Review 0

Mirror's Edge is an action game that has you running from roof top to roof top trying to solve a mystery, while at the same time trying to stick it to the man with your freedom. Basically there's a centralized government that everyone, but the 'runners' have conformed to. There are those out there that use the runners to run missions and errands. You are one of the best runners, Faith, and you have just recovered from a pretty bad injury. The controls are complicated, but at the same time aren't ...

EPIC Fail, EA or Dice, or whoever was in charge of producing this product (I dare you to call it a game). You want to know how amazing this new and revolutionary game play is? Well, you run and you jump! After that you die. Respawn, do-over! It's just not possible to understand, where to go under fire of snipers! You need to run and check, die and try again, only after you've been there already! For the record, i am not a whiny little bitch. I am very big and muscular bitch, who just wants to en...

    Not So Edgey 0

A competent first-person platformer with some promising ideas, Mirror's Edge eventually nose-dives off of a building and crashes into the pavement... if it's not gunned down by SWAT members, first.      I appreciate it when a game takes a gamble. I always enjoy a new intelligent property, or a complete overhaul to an old property. Mirror's Edge was another of EA's attempts at throwing something new into the mix, bringing you a first-person platformer with a great art style. And if you've playe...

ProsGood sense of movement.Melee combat though generally not the option you'll choose is fun and well animated. In a world where every other game is grey and brown, the bright colors in this title make for a welcome change.ConsGun play isn't quite as fun, though when push comes to shove it's generally the combat option you'll take because it's quicker.Coming across sections where the next course of action isn't immediately obvious breaks the flow of all the neat acrobatic stuff you get to do.It's...

Runs with a bad leg. 0

One of hardest genres that developers have failed time and time again to get right is the first person platforming. Despite a wealth of great first person shooter games on the market, developers have struggled with letting people experience other genres from the same perspective. Many have tried, some have come close, but none have truly achieved. Then Digital illusions steps up to the plate with Mirror’s edge. The game takes place in a totalitarian society, where information is a precious commo...

Gotta be a bit of a hater on this one.By no means is Mirror's Edge a failure.  I must say that glowing reviews seem a bit extreme, but there's something infectious offered here that almost makes you WANT to love it, even if you can't.  I'll detail my own discoveries with the title, and maybe postulate a reason for the generally high scores I've seen.Downloaded the demo of LIVE, and the first thing I thought was Holy S*#$ is this game fascinating.  The videos don't do it justice - in fact, I find...

    Unprecedented 0

Fundamentally, Mirror's Edge is a game about balance. During those tentative first steps, it's literally about not falling from the ledges, poles and bars that seem oh so daunting to cross. Once the controls have been acclimatised to, it's a case of keeping encounters in check and learning how to deal with disarms and hand-to-hand combat. Finally, as Faith's movements become muscle memory and the Speed Runs tower ahead, it's about balancing the insatiable lust for speedy shortcuts and risky jump...

Mirrors Edge was foretold to be the revolutionary platformer, to be unmatched and unrivalled and truth be told, Mirrors Edge doesn't revolutionize the genre but innovates it. Mirrors Edge certainly shows a high level of polish but it still has frustrations that were needed to get passed to make this a revolutionary game. Instead it's more of an innovating concept rather than a revolutionary standard for platforming games to take upon this path in the future. Mirrors Edge background is a surpris...

Late Bird Review: Mirror's Edge 0

Much like the game, this review should be on the short side. The game brings something new to the table: first-person free-running. But is that enough to carry this game into a worthy sequel? Taking a step away from shooting everything that moves in most first person games, Mirror’s Edge plays off the adrenaline you get from running from “the ” When I first heard about this concept I jumped right on board. Running from swarms of enemies as opposed to stopping to shoot is part of the fun. As...

    A revelation! 0

Mirror’s Edge proved to be a revelation. Despite my dislike of the first person shooter genere, and especially first person precision jumping, I found the game to be exhilarating and rewarding. The first person free-running is brilliantly implemented, and the stark environments spectacularly convey the corporatocracy (a government dominated by corporate influence) in which the game is set. Despite a number of flaws, such as the forced combat and weak story-telling, Mirror’s Edge manages to balan...

Mirror's Edge is unique, but falls short 0

This is the main character Faith, seen here taking some names.     Mirror’s Edge is a first person action game. The unique thing about it is that it’s more like first person free running game. This allows for unique set pieces and game play. But due to some confusing level design and weird gameplay focuses Mirror Edge comes up a little short. In Mirrors Edge you play as Faith. You are a runner for a group of people who deliver information from one underground group to another. The reason for th...

Considering that Mirror's Edge was the first game I got for my 360, I did not have a lot to compare it to. I had heard about it before there was a lot of hype behind it and the idea hooked me as soon as I read about it. Mirror's Edge could have been a great and exciting platformer, but instead stumbles constantly, just keeping it from reaching its obvious potential. At its best, this game is rush, a wild ride of running, jumping, and doing batman and spiderman style tricks accross rooftops, and inside buildings.  The way you can interact with the environment is often very smart, and satisfying.  There will be moments where you'll forget you'll playing a game.  It really gets your adrenaline pumping.  But then,...

Innovation is nice but it only goes so far 0

Innovation isn’t exactly easy to find nowadays, but when it calls it’s always answered. Mirror’s Edge is industry giant EA’s take on manipulating the first-person genre into something other than a shooter. Yes that means hopping around with no mechanisms that spew a fiery discharge or promote rag-doll physics. Is it heresy? Not exactly.  GREEEEEEEEEEEEN chute. Welcome Faith, (a clever subliminal message for your encouragement) the tattooed and lightning fast protagonist of the game. As a citi...

WARNING: Spoilers, Bad Language!I saw the trailers and they were awesome.  I played the Xbox 360 demo and it was awesome.  I played the PlayStation 3 version and it was... good. The levels are designed great.  This is the next evolution in the puzzle solving genre since Portal. The combat (both hand-to-hand and weaponry) is terrible.  Faith dies in 2 hits from enemies.  The enemies block any attack you've used previously, so you have to keep changing your attacks.  Personally, they should've just...

    Gamefly Backlog: Mirror's Edge 0

Mirror's Edge is a game that attempts to bring something new to the platformer genre by way of a first-person perspective and exhilarating parkour action. While it certainly has its moments, the fact that Mirror's Edge tries to shoehorn in common gameplay elements of other first-person games instead of focusing on its own unique strengths, detracts from an otherwise enjoyable experience.  Mirror's Edge takes place in a distopian city in which everything is tightly controlled by the government. ...

Conceptually neat, but hurt by a few severe issues 0

In most first person games out there, you carry a gun, and with that gun, you shoot dudes up and complete objectives. Swedish developer EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) decided to take that formula and throw it right out the window. Mirror's Edge is a first person game, but the main focus isn't combat. It's running. The game drops you into the shoes of a woman named Faith, and throughout the game, you will run from point A to point B. It sounds simple, and it really is. Mirror's Edge is a conceptu...

When I think of Mirror's Edge developer EA, the first thing that springs to mind is playing fifa on the megadrive and being amazed by the voice intro ('It's in the game'), the second thought that crosses my mind when i think of EA is the endless number of sports games littered with fashionable indie/rock "trax".With this in mind I have found myself impressed and surprised by the recent upturn in decent new IP that EA have developed, first there was Skate- a reinterpretation of the skate-em-up th...

There are three games inside Mirror's Edge. One is an awesome and original first-person game that emphasizes on flow and momentum, with a shaky camera that reminds me of the Bourne movies. One is a slow puzzle game, with a focus on platforming, which reminds me of Portal. One is a terrible, god-awful melee-combat action game that requires a lot of trial-and-error and is very frustrating. The first two games are amazing. The last one is dreadful, ruins the good effect of the first two, and...

I have found myself strangly addicted to the game and, now that I've actually been working on time trial runs, I find myself trying to perfect what I can do in it.With a concept that basically could be worded as "jump on stuff with style," Mirror's Edge sticks out of the general game categories in a way that I find very compelling. Mirror's Edge can be really fun when you're stringing together moves flawlessly and running at high speed. But its rare one can even get to full sprinting speed for more than a few seconds, let alone use that speed to complete more than two moves before momentum is lost. The game is filled with (duh) high jumps. Often you are required to jump from a high vantage point down to a low one. The catch is that unless you want to lose health and be momentarily stunned, you have to roll when you hit the...

Mirror's Edge has always caught my eye, from its puzzle like gameplay to its unique graphics and first person action. This game to me seemed like another Portal twist on things.
