@VanillaBear505: So, I'm 30 and a software developer (not game related). When I was your age I knew I wanted to do something computer related so I went to school for Math and Computer Science.
Graphic Design work, unless you are very artistically talented, is something I would avoid. As for sports, your too young to know how good you will be. Between 15 and 18 is where you hit your stride. I played ice hockey for a long time and 15 - 18 were the golden years for me when I went pretty far but then stopped for a number of personal and physical reasons. You are young enough where you should play the sports you like (and take them seriously, you never know how far you can go until you get there) while also continuing to finish school. School is most important though because if you get hurt sports go out the window.
As for getting in the game development industry, i don't know first hand, but I image it is crazy competitive. However, from what i've heard, there are not necessarily rules around what your background must be. If you know people and can prove you can make significant meaningful contributions you may get in no matter what schooling you choose. Hell, if you learn it all yourself you can start your own game company, which some people do. You will also meet a lot of people over the next 10 - 20 years, you never know what you can do when you meet some other great people to work with.
On the other hand I have found that, as far a degrees are concerned, a strong background in Math can take you almost anywhere. If you are somewhat uncertain, pursuing a degree in Mathematics (or Physics or the like) will help you develop the analytical skills you can use for almost anything. While majoring in something like Math or Physics you can minor in CS, Design, Engineering or anything else you feel like for some additional depth. I slept through high school, its just a day care for teenagers although it is somewhat important regardless. College is where you really can learn a lot if you apply yourself. And don't let them tell you you need to go to an Ivy League school and spend tons of money either. College is what *you* make of it. If you do what you need to do then you will learn what you want/need to even from a regular city college.
Hope this helps. After everything I have been through, I have learned a few things though... advice is cheap, you must make your own path, no one will do it for you... and... life can surprise you while your along for the trip since your life can change a lot and not always to what you expect. Listen to your heart, it will guide you in the right direction, mine has.
I don't care for RTS's but an RTS on a touch screen makes pretty good sense. This seems to be one of the few game types ideally suited for touch screens. I am likely not going to get an iPad so I will not play it anyway.
Its difficult to say, I have seen the situation play out from both sides first hand. It's messed up no matter how you cut it. It's not the law, per say, that is the problem, its the people, who still today, discriminate one way or they other.
I do however feel, as a working professional, that the best person you can find for a job should get the job regardless of the race nonsense.
Yo, we're all human!
Anyone who knows me, knows I could not care less what color you are. As long as your not an asshole we're cool.
" I was talking to a friend today while watching history channel, UFO hunters came on and he believes in that stuff, i think it is made up, what do you think?? "
i think there is probably life on other planets, do they come here, no idea... but UFO hunters is stupid.
" I'm not that far yet but I have been dating the same girl for almost 4 years and have learned only thing. Women are a mysterious species. "
Women are easy my friend. There is one simple rule I have learned.
Women tend to feel insecure. Make them feel important to you, special, loved and they melt in your arms. Of course, for this to work they must actually truly be special to you.
One last thing. I love my wife and being married. Congrats and best of luck!
If you like the game and enjoy it, then it is worth it.
BF:BC2 claims to give away free maps to VIP's but... they are the maps that are already on the disc and all they did was unlock modes for the maps. Thats not really getting much for free.
These are 3 completely new maps and 2 redone maps. I hope they bring all the COD4 maps over to MW2.
I agree $15 is a bit steep (would have been better if they added some spec ops stuff)... but remember, there are a lot of people who don't buy tons of games. Many people only buy a few select games and play them a lot. For people who only (or mostly) play MW2... its worth it.
Yea, I like the game but as far as I am concerned any game that has teamwork based stuff in it gets old real fast. Teamwork in video games sucks because no one every actually plays as a team. And the fact that there are online achievements means people are doing what they need to for the achievements and then once they have them people either just don't care or they stop playing the game.
See, the deal with the COD's, for me anyway, is I can jump into a *fast paced* game with very fast re-spawn times very quickly, run around, kill some dudes and be done. While some of the people playing COD's can be annoying (true for any game)... The speed and constant intensity level of CODs is what I love so much. And the COD controls are smooth as butter.
I don't get to spend a lot of time gaming anymore so when I do get to play I want constant instant satisfaction. I don't want to wait around to spawn, wait for teammates, run 5 miles to get to the other side of the map (b/c the vehicles are always gone). I want to shoot dudes and not have to wait to shoot more dudes :)
