Part of the problem is that Videl is beat up at great length solely to motivate Gohan, not as part of her own story, so to speak. She's the Stuff that has been Touched.

Fair enough. I don't think that's her only purpose in this story arc, but that's a decent enough point.

This series really doesn't know how to handle female characters, its a damn shame because they have the potential to be really badass.

I think this particular story arc does a much better job than normal with Videl. I mean, yes, she does get the shit beaten out of her, but she doesn't go down without a fight and she gets beaten by a guy who is planning to attack Gohan, who spent his childhood getting into fights with beings that make gods shit themselves. Not really a fair fight. Otherwise, she's smart and strong and has a will and personality of her own without any of those things coming across as forced. She's just a good character.

I am more bummed that Android 18 doesn't get more screen time, because the few things she does do are pretty great (lfighting Goten/Trunks, extorting money out of Mr Satan) but she doesn't get to do or even say much beyond that and she gets harassed by Master Roshi in the worst way possible. There's also no reason why she couldn't have had a bigger presence in the fights. They instead decide to make two male children do all the fighting and 18 has already proven she can beat those two at the same time - and they have no idea how much more powerful fusion will make these kids. Still, at least neither Videl nor 18 gets reduced to "nagging middle-aged woman" like Chi-Chi or Bulma, nor are they reduced to submissive shells there for the men.

And I already know that 18 gets to do a whole bunch of fighting towards the end of Super, but then I'd have to watch more of Super.

This batch of episodes was a bit of a drag for me, it just spent so long on doing so little, so I'm expecting the hosts here to provide the entertainment instead as usual. This podcast is great!

My biggest surprise from these episodes was that I had forgotten how much build-up Supreme Kai gets. All I remembered was him being a loser who's weaker than every Saiyan. Is he seriously stronger than Piccolo?

Spopovich did nothing wrong.

Lol fucking best first comment. It's so sad that Videl's only canon fight is her getting her teeth kicked in for fifteen minutes.

Yeah, I always found it a bit weird how this bit makes Supreme Kai seem like a very powerful being but he never actually does anything. When it is time to fight, he basically hides behind Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan until none of them are left to defend him and he panic attacks Fat Buu.

Man. I can't wait for them to see how this next bit of plot spins up into something completely different compared to what it is now.

So they didn't redesign this to let you use the Pro controller/buttons at all? It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to adapt this combat system to a proper controller instead of garbage motion controls.

EDIT: I should note, I have a DS version of this game that I have never touched. I'm also not opposed to playing this version on the Switch, but it looks like this game would work much better as originally intended.

Also, playing it with a mouse probably wouldn't be so bad.

This seems like an OK version of Dark Souls if you must have a portable version, but DS Remastered on the PS4/Xbox One/PC is a much better choice if you're OK with not having a portable version of this game. Vastly superior frame rate, much clearer visuals, far more comfortable controls, etc.

...man. Whoever wrote that stuff for Frank Woods is either terrible or they wanted to try their best to make this game look bad. Or they were just having some fun writing garbage.

please tell me this is coming up and wasn't part of the cut filler

This is from the second episode of Dragonball Super. There's no visiting the fair in Dragonball Z because - well, not to spoil too much, but shit's going to hit the fan fairly soon in absolutely spectacular fashion. The World Tournament saga is my favorite stretch of Dragonball Z episodes for a very good reason.

...desk?

EDIT: OK, five minutes in Jeff is spinning around in his chair like a seven year old. Unprofessionalism still firmly in effect.

Seeing your main character sparta-kick a fucking bear is almost enough to make me want to buy this game.

Almost. I barely played Origins and never finished Syndicate and those are the only two Assassin's Creed games I own. I've played some II but never got into it, and I'm not really feeling open-world games in general right now. Still, sparta-kicking bears is an excellent feature.

I'd really like to see Alex take a break from main series Mega Man and play the Mega Man X. I've really enjoyed watching him play all of these and I've been hoping since the beginning that he would play Mega Man X.
