  • DOOM 2016 is the perfect amalgamation of mechanics, atmosphere, story and music coming together to make something that knows exactly what it is. It doesn't fuck around. As I get older and start to play less games overall it reminded me why I play them in the first place.

  • I am a huge fan of XCOM:Enemy Unknown and was really looking forward to XCOM 2. I didn't like some aspects of the game at first. Like the limited turn counter and the ship metagame outside of missions. However, once I embraced them they proved a smart design choice and made the experience of XCOM 2 feel different and rewarding. It made the game better in the end. I also stopped caring about game achievements a long time ago but saying I beat XCOM2 on Veteran Iron Man is one of the few gaming things I will allow myself to nerd out about.

  • Guilty Gear still remains my favorite FG to play. Revelator updated mechanics and made an already amazing looking game look even better. The new characters it introduced were interesting and fun to play and keep me occupied as I continue to wait for Baiken.

  • I've played all the previous Hitman games and the franchise remains one of my favorites. I was worried the episodic release schedule would not gel with the way I played the previous games and I was right. It proved to be a better method for playing the game! It also helps that the level design here is the best in the series. I can't wait to jump into season 2.

  • It came out of nowhere and I put a lot of hours into this little joyful game. I never played Harvest Moon but hearing the concept of the game always appealed to me. The idea that one person made it is still astonishing to me.

  • Playing Dark Souls III reminded me that I was missing the series after getting accustomed to Bloodborne. I wish the environments were a bit more varied. It didn't do much different from other entries in the series but I did enjoy playing through it quite a bit. And hey, they made magic somewhat viable.

  • SFV is a really fun FG. The fighting game part is superb. Easy to pick up and it rewards smart play. However, everything else surrounding the core fighting mechanics and netplay is a shitshow. Which doesn't bother me in the grand scheme of things but makes me understand anyone who puts it down because of that stuff. Hopefully Capcom can continue to work on it and turn public perception around in the future.

  • Goosebumps. That's what I feel when i'm playing Thumper well.

  • So I played through Dishonored 1 and 2 this year shortly after one another. Being able to approach situations in lots of creative and fun ways is refreshing. I did have some issues with 2 on PC beyond it's technical woes but enjoyed my stealthy murderous romp nonetheless.

  • I feel like I have to say that I didn't follow this game at all during development and bought it after seeing videos of it when released. It has issues but it has a sense of wonder and size no other game has given me. I put a lot of hours into this fantastical "walking simulator" with light resource mechanics.
