I really don't get, from looking at it, why BurgerTime Party is eliciting the reactions of revulsion from @jeff that it does. It just looks like multiplayer BurgerTime with Cuphead wannabe art... Even if you hate the art it still looks like it just plays like BurgerTime with more players. It's not like Super BurgerTime where they changed the way it plays. I wish he'd have elaborated other than "this is bad".
Can we get a series where Dan plays some space games with HOTAS? This isn't the first time he's talked about missing out on those games, and he seems interested.
Call it DOTAS: Dan on Throttle and Stick.
THIS is the kind of insane/inane content that I subscribe to see. Make it happen @danryckert!
At first I thought Vinny was being overly critical watching him play the first stage...
Sure, it's not exactly Contra and blowing up the doors and just seemingly appearing in a new area was lazy as fuck design (you should go through the door and the next area should be on the other side of said door, not a screen wipe) but it looks like it could be a fun co-op shooter to play with my spouse...
Then the upgrade shit. Okay, it seems bad and stupid but I'll just mostly ignore it as much as I can.
THEN... that fucking 'co-op'. It needs to be fucking unlocked, THEN it isn't even playing through the actual stages in the game. Yeah, fuck this game.
"I'm not going to spoil anything" then proceeds to drop what I'd consider the biggest spoiler of the game "I just got the ability to fly". I get that it's technically a gameplay spoiler, but going into the game I had no clue it opened up like that. It was a real 'holy shit' moment that wouldn't have been there if I'd known it was a thing.
@rorie Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher's author, hates the games because CDPR came to him with an offer to licence the Witcher series for a percentage but he expected the game to not make any money so instead he made them give him an upfront fee for the licence. He screwed himself out of a lot of money so he's bitter about the games.
The Barenaked Ladies guy just does some voice over work as a character or a few.
That said, the soundtrack by Scott Ian of Anthrax is terrible... I mean, as a cover of the BK2K theme it's okay but there is so little variety to the music on the table compared to BK2K. All the music in BK2K changes when you go to the different game modes... in BK Sword of Rage it's basically the same 2 minutes over and over (or if it's not, it sure as hell sounds like it) and gets very boring very quickly. Also, NO LYRICS. (Note: there is a hidden mode that uses some of the original BK and BK2K sounds that does have some lyrics, but that's basically hidden and still isn't as good as just playing BK2K.
As for playing it, it's an interesting enough table, but it doesn't feel like Black Knight, the OPTIONAL upper playfield is terrible, it's basically just a flipper and a ball lock, no pop bumpers, no switches, nothing to keep your interest. My guess is the upper playfield is probably so sparse and lacking any interesting because they designed it to be optional and easily installed or removed.
I say the above as someone who was extremely excited about a new BK table because BK2K is probably my favorite pinball game. When they announced it I was close to getting a job just to be able to afford buying one. So yeah, extremely disapointed.
Ben: "I'd almost rather play more of this than the new samurai showdown."
Jeff: "Like, yeah, but that doesn't mean this game is good"
Good god, what the hell are you guys playing that you think is so damn bad because the Samurai Showdown I've got on my PS4 is really fucking good. I get they have (and are allowed to have) their own opinion but Jeff and Ben are like the only ones I've seen who act like the game is terrible.O_o
