I’m into it. Curious to see if it has legs for me. I got really into Fire Emblem Heroes for the first few weeks then stopped and haven’t played since.

I love Animal Crossing, so I’m hopeful.

@ntm:

The story definitely does not push you through the main campaign. If you ever have time to return to it, I think it’s worth playing. There are some really interesting platforming sections in the main campaign and in some of the side content. The added movement options are what makes it better than the first for me. It’s too bad they lock some of it away under the skill tree.

Been playing through Mirrors Edge Catalyst lately, quite late to the party. Mirrors Edge was one of my favorite games from the 360. Flawed, but I enjoyed it immensely.

Catalyst is a better game than the original. The open world works great for the game. It’s fun to run through the world. But it suffers from many of the same problems as the first, and some new issues have cropped up.

The two major issues lie with the combat and the story.

The combat in the first game broke up the momentum of the movement. They addressed this to some degree in Catalyst, and one-on-one encounters actually feel pretty good. Any time the game throws two or more enemies at you simultaneously, it falls apart. The game would be better without any combat whatsoever, but even if they limited fights to one enemy at a time, the game would benefit.

The story in Catalyst is bad. To its credit, I actually remember what happened, and could relate it to you. More than I could say for the first game. The performances are pretty good, and it’s clear that folks on the team actually tried. I respect that. But the plot is ludicrous, and the writing is cringe-worthy. I wish they weren’t so intent on telling a story on such a grand scale. Something more low-key would have complimented the gameplay.

Game has more problems than that, but despite its flaws I really loved it. I think with a little tuning it could be amazing. Unfortunatly I don’t see EA giving the series another shot. I’m appreciative of the two games we got.

On any single game I’m struggling to think of any obscene amounts. I spent $100 on the special edition of Breath of the Wild plus $20 on the season pass. That might actually be the highest.

I stopped posting/visiting NeoGAF over a year ago. It had its strengths, but I found the community to be very toxic overall. Bullying seemed to not only be tolerated, but celebrated. I wasn't aware that there was a long standing accusation made regarding the owner, but it's a shame it took this long to be addressed.

I know lots of folks felt very connected to those forums though, and I hope that anyone looking to be a part of a genuine, positive community will find it here or elsewhere.

I have never played a GT game before, so take this with a grain of salt.

I love the Forza series, and I was considering buying a PS4. GT Sport caught my eye as a possible game I could get into. I’ll grant you, I didn’t do any research on the game outside of just being aware of what GT has traditionally been.

I think for folks like me, GT Sport may catch you off guard. I don’t know if Sony did the best job of clarifying what type of game this was. The title especially, from my point of view, did not convey it.

Regarding the quick look, I did find myself wondering what Drew’s take on this game would be. It’s important to bare in mind that the GB staff give their honest opinions from their own viewpoint, they don’t often say things like, “This is great for a certain type of player.” You can see that in this QL, as well as Jeff’s take on Forza 7. I don’t think either game is outright bad, they just aren’t his thing. But Jeff does not hold back from saying something sucks if he doesn’t like it.

Has the controversy surrounding this game and JonTron been addressed? Apparently it features a VO cameo, similar to the one that was arranged for Yooka-Laylee. For folks who missed it, Playtonic removed him from the game after he made some offensive comments in a video.

I haven’t seen the video in question, but apparently his comments were directed at immigrants and racial minorities. It resulted in a small exodus from his followers, although it appears that his dedicated fan base has stuck by him and boycotted Yooka-Laylee for removing him.

There’s a story on Polygon about it, apparently the devs of Hat in Time have not responded to questions about his cameo, and as far as I know, it’s still in the game.

Kind of off putting to be honest. I know they’re in an awkward spot, but they should really say something about it, if they haven’t already.

Been playing a lot of Type Shift. It’s a take on crossword puzzle style games. The clue puzzles are generally pretty good, I’ve ended up buying several additional packs.

@bradbrains:

Only reason I buy physical is when the price is lower, which can often be the case. Forza 7 arrives from Amazon today, bummer that it probably won’t be ready until tomorrow.

I only played a bit, so take this with a grain of salt. The difficulty on the bosses felt well tuned and enjoyable. The run and gun levels? Not so much. I’m finding them to be a bit random and crossing the line of frustration.

Gonna give the game some more time though.

I can’t shake the feeling that they made a mistake by giving in to people complaining about the original pitch for a game focused entirely on boss fights.
