600 that's a lot WOW.

I don't really understand people calling Gears 5 an open world game. It just has some open areas and you're free to beeline towards the objective in no time. The skiffing, side stuff, and dialog is really fun though.

When Jeff said deep down I got genuinely excited for a second. Only for a second... :(

performance issues aside, that game is legit GREAT.

600 episodes and I didn't even get a review copy of Borderlands 3.

Hearing that Breakpoint ran poorly on the 2070 is disheartening as that's the card I have. Wild Lands also ran incredibly poorly on my machine and I tried that fairly recently. Division 2 and the new AC games run fine though.

Jeff is awesome and I'm usually right there with him, although there is precedent on disagreeing with him on the things he's describing. Red Dead comes to mind.

@abysswalker: I was playing it on a 1080 and had zero issues all maxed out. It’s a beta so maybe that’s why the performance wasn’t as good on a 2070. Division 2 and AC both fine for me as well.

@octaslash: It’s not open world at all. I don’t get Jeff’s complaints about the barren world because the skiff is so fast you can just go from mission to mission without downtime.

Brad’s lack of interest in anything but a small selection of videogames is kind of sad.

@brad When Shadowkeep launches they're leveling everyone's gear, both in the vault and on your character, to 750 so there's no reason to fret about being underleveled. You'll be able to just jump in and go. Basically if you want to get ready for Shadowkeep, just dismantle all your Eververse gear for the bright dust and you're pretty much set.

They forgot that gears is getting a x-com style game for pc eventually. I’m excited for it

huh i thought the gears 5 campaign was fantastic. I did enjoy the open areas a lot more than jeff it seems though.

@moda: Sad but true, they'll just say " there's just too much going on around the game to even give a chance, its just tarnished the game for me" or something to that extent. That's about how its been thus far.

I wish they'd understand the idea of; don't let what a single guy does ruin what over 400+ people have worked on for over half a decade.

I think the issue with the car battery drainage is not the capacity of the battery, or high draw of bluetooth, but the fact that the electronics system as a whole isn't engineered around micro-managing power draw in the same way we're used to with other modern electronics.

On cars the different electronics sub-systems seem to share common buses, such that when one small sub-system gets woken up it has to wake up a lot of other things as well (if not, all other things). This is in contrast to modern SoCs in mobile and desktop where sub-systems and components of the chip will boost when they have something to do, and down-clock (if not shut off entirely) when they're idle -- this is what's referred to as "race to sleep".

That being said, there's certainly still cases where smartphones can experience something analogous to parasitic drain in cars, but it's at least something you can troubleshoot from your couch rather than in your driveway with a multi-meter.

There's some intermittent audio pops on the video version. Audio version seems fine.

@unastrike The huge game banner that takes up 20 percent of the screen is not necessary. I personally don’t think it should be there at at all, but if you have to have it, please let it be in a corner as small as possible.

@abysswalker: It might be bad with rtx but it ran acceptably on my 1070 and looked pretty good too.

@one50nine: Rorie said it ran fine on his 2080 ti but given the price of that card and what not that should absolutely be the case. The trial for Wild Lands might have been an older version or something cause that's what I tried but the performance really soured me on the whole thing.

@abysswalker: I think Rorie says 1080 ti. It's at 37:00 on the video. Wildlands was fine for me as well which would point towards weird compatibility with the 2070.

I believe they said there is nothing releasing this week that was "gears level" and yet Borderlands 3 is out. They seem to lean in really heavy on the negative press it has received with Randy Pitchford's nonsense. It's clear that this has effected the game, but it will outsell gears by a huge huge amount.

Everything about the events leading up to borderlands 3 has been really unsettling. That said, it isn’t a live service game which owns and I kinda want to see it for myself too.

I don’t blame anyone for going into the game with a bad taste in their mouth, Pitchford being front and center so much just sucks.

I have never heard anyone in the UK refer to the X button as 'Cross', in coverage or in person. Weird assertion from Jeff!

@mellotronrules:Damn straight, I tried going back after the x-quisite corps but I can't stand how much more limited EU/EW is. Got over 400 hours in XCOM 2 and published a couple mods, anyone who finds the timers a deal breaker probably just spent 30 turns overwatching on blue moves only.

@lunacantabile: I legit didn't even know what he was talking about when he said the timers were off-putting. How is that even a thing to be concerned about in that game, unless WotC changed them drastically they just made you move in missions rather than sitting and waiting for endless turns.

@kazzerscout: I am from the UK and I refer to that button as cross, but I've not met anyone else who does.

I thought calling the button "Cross" was a pretty wide thing. Maybe I've been listening to too much Greg and Colin. :P

On the topic of cross saves between the Game Pass/MS Store version and the Steam version of Gears 5. I have Game Pass and after playing Gears 5 for a few hours I knew that I would like to own the game and I was thinking of buying it on Steam so it is kind of a bummer that my save progress won't transfer to that version.

@xshinobi: Is it not possible to just move the save file?

The Gears 5 "open world" is god awful. There's absolutely nothing to do, and "being able to hop on the skiff and move on" isn't any kind of excuse, because even that isn't necessary. Just load us into the next mission instead of having us drive across an empty wasteland, like every Gears prior.

I think it's totally fair to criticize Gears open world parts if they don't offer much to the game. The devs made the call to include that stuff to switch it up a bit and if that didn't make it a better game than it's on them.

And yeah, the borderlands stuff is just annoying. Everything about that game screams that Gearbox just needs a hit real bad and are doing whatever they can to make this a huge hit. Even if that causes some frowns and angry faces in the industry. To be fair, the survival of your studio is nr 1 priority, so i can understand why it's this way. I hope that this doesn't burn too many people that are on fence about getting it and have decided to take the plunge and that the performance is alright on the consoles too.
