The audio is SO LOUD in this video. Gameplay is way too loud, and the commentary is very loud as well, but not nearly as bad. It is roughly 2.5x louder than most other GB live set content.

Please, hire a tech to work with you for a couple days.

That look when you make it to the 6-4 castle on your last life, die immediately, and have to start from the beginning of World 6 all over again.

50 minutes in and he's at world 5 with another 2 hours left? I'm guessing he starts over from the beginning again...

I'm thinking the same thing...

Man, the like, complete and utter 30 second meltdown in world three after Brad gets a little confident and starts talking about the 1 up trick and pro strats or whatever is the most Breaking Brad moment, with the cherry on top messing up the continue and having to restart...I just love this feature so much. Thanks to everyone involved, and Brad you're a treasure!

Roger Ebert's review for The War of the Roses. I had never heard of this movie before, I had to see how it was received at the time. Based on the poster art, I can see why Jeff had absolutely no interest in seeing it, but it looks alright.

I’ve never seen it and always just assumed it was about The war of the roses so I was confused as to why Mr. & Mrs. Gerstmann would want to see it so badly they would leave young Jeff alone in a car park.

I've seen it once, long ago. It's about an extremely bitter divorce, and the Ebert review doesn't really communicate how hateful and dark it is - purposefully, but still, man. (Example of subject matter (spoilered for animal abuse): the wife kills the husband's beloved dog, then feeds the husband pate made from the dog's liver.) There's a touch of black humor, but only a touch - it's not a funny movie. It's easy to see how the subject matter alone (divorce, and how people who love each other can grow to hate each other, in part because of that love) wouldn't appeal to a kid, and despite the accolades the film won, the tone makes it for very certain audiences only.

(ETA added perspective: I'm roughly Jeff's age, and while I didn't see it in the theater, I watched The War of the Roses with my mother shortly after it came to home video. This was not long after she and my father went through a bad separation, and she exposed me to a lot of media I really shouldn't have seen at that age in the course of her coping process. There are scenes in that movie (like the one I spoilered) that you really don't need rattling around in your head as a kid. Young Jeff made the right call.)

I beat Super Mario Bros for the first time a few years ago with no warps without ever knowing there was a continue. Nobody had ever mentioned it until right after I did that.

As my favorite band being blink-182 and this being my favorite website, my world's seemed to collide for a period of 5 minutes there. Was almost a transcendent experience.

EDIT: Brad in World 5 - I'll never make that mistake again. ::checks the runtime:: Surrre.

If this turns into Brad 100%-ing every mainline Mario game, I am so all for it.

Be careful with that SMB2 (J) talk though. That game does not fuck around!

there's no they didn't decide to play this game as a lead-in to real mario 2

Huh. I saw it as a kid as well and I seem to remember that I liked it and found it funny. Might have to watch it again to see if those are just false memories. Then again, black humor is totally my shit and has always been. As an interesting side note, my parents also got a divorce what must've been like just a few years after I saw that movie.

@ericsmith: I'm agree that this was far louder than the last UPF for example, but this was probably the happiest I've been with GBW audio production in a while.

Very little by way of background audio compared to recent issues with the AC and I was happy with the game-commentary balance. The only major glitch I noticed was that there's still some dynamic EQ such as when Ben coughed and it completely shut off gameplay.

Ultimately, I'm far happier to turn GB down on a per-video basis if I need to instead of upping my speakers and blowing out a different source.

@janman is such a cool dude. He didn't have to, but he made my monster of Brad Mario part of the show in the most amazing way. On a whim I @'d him in chat to use it. I thought that he would just replace Brads camera feed for a little bit. This had made my week (or even month).

@convox: The dynamic eq is a pretty annoying thing. It's like they are using some standard setting in Ozone to duck the gameplay for voice, and it just doesn't sound good at all. It either needs to be worked on, or removed altogether. Having super loud coin noises when no one is kinda rough.

You're right that this is better than it has been, though, because at least the gate isn't snapping everything out, and it doesn't have weird buzz that was present for awhile there.

Is 8-3 without a fire flower or being Super Mario the hardest level in SMB? I remember it always coming down to luck If I went into the level small.

Ben and Jeff come off a little condescending at towards the beginning of this one. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong though. I felt for Brad when he forgets to hold A to continue and Ben laughs hysterically at him. Didn't seem to bother him much though, so I'm not sure why I care lol.

Good idea/feature. The Mario Fact picture is amazing.

@dunchad:Nah, you're right. I don't know what the other duder was on about. I mean, whether anyone finds the movie actually funny is down to taste, but it's absolutely a comedy.
