Giant Bombcast Game of the Year 2017: 2017's Old Game of the Year

@strife: As I somewhat suspected he seems to be mostly production and behind the scenes type guy, and while he's playing stuff he doesn't seem to be as heavily into games as most of the rest of the crew. Which is fine.

The only thing I'm really left baffled by here is the part where Windjammers was just on the list the entire time, never had any real discussion about it. I know they all like it but a little more insight on the decision would've been nice, considering I can't remember them mentioning it a single time this year outside of "it's coming out" and "here's the quick look" (maybe I missed it all?).

Bayonetta 2 would be my pick for Old Game of 2017. Only got around to buying it this year and ended up enjoying it a lot.

@convox: hahaha, I remember thinking the exact thing last year too. He always wants his opinion on record, even if he admits that it's definitely a minority opinion. Which is fine, but when you know you're in the minority and you also aren't really keen on trying to convince anyone to change their opinion, maybe keep it a little more brief?

I'm fine with the premium advertisements, the typo severely irritates me though.

Why are there lower third ads in this? There's also a typo.

Also not a fan of the lower thirds. Understand why they are there but they're a bit distracting when they keep popping up.

The videos shouldn't have ads for premium users except the case where you're viewing it via the Youtube player. Youtube does not allow an option to turn off ads for embedded videos.

Not really a fan of a 2017 game winning Old Game of the Year

The ads should only popup during the ending of the video in my opinion, the amount of ads won't really do much, it's also a bit distracting.

That said, the production is the rest is great, the Luchadeer is super cute and the live- editing of the document is a weird but funny feature.

I think Abby's criticism of XCOM controls is invalid. I'm sorry, but she's really the only one who had a problem with it, and she was having issues with both a controller and keyboard+mouse. That game controls quite well.

Eh, it's a port of a three year old game with a little extra content. I think it totally counts.

I think some of these comments are being a little stuffy / overly critical. Brad pretty explicitly said that this is a loose "warm-up" category to get everyone primed for other GOTY the discussions, and clearly no one was particularly passionate about any old games this year.

There's no need to get in-depth if the general sentiments in the room are "yeah, Mario Kart was pretty good and there's no other old games I'm dying to have above it," so getting all cynical about GOTY discussions being "shallow and pedantic" this year when there is another 24+ hours to go is being a bit dramatic.

I like some of the games y'all chose, but I think I'm misunderstanding this category because you all chose games that had a release this year.

@timberbarrackk: Also agree Abby just screaming its brown in one of the videos really put me off. Miss Ryan someone needs to check people and keep the group focused. If your personal favorite game isn't going to happen let it die.

I also really wish that the subscriber popup didn't appear every couple minutes on the GB player when I'm a subscriber. Like, it's in the video and it's very distracting, especially when their word doc is up...

Where's the love for Rocket League? That is my old game of the year with all the support that game has gotten and new modes are great.

Umm Exquisite Corps series has been played on Enemy Within, so why is Enemy Unknown up for consideration?

Also, XCOM 2 is a fine follow up in expanding the core mechanics of the original, always a little bummed when Jeff bags it.

Mario Kart 8 continues to be an absolute incredible game and the pinnacle of that series. Much deserved win.

I'm really surprised how the crew has gotten back into Skyrim, mostly because I'd think it just doesn't hold up well anymore. Good to hear.

Mario Kart 8 seems like a solid choice.
