I sometimes listen to one podcast which is more than 500 weekly episodes. The Skeptics Guide to the Universe, which is at 637. That must be one of the oldest podcasts around, they got in incredibly early!

Unfortunately that podcast seems to have barely changed since then so can be quite boring and formulaic.

@thebojangler: I dont know how it is in the US but here in the Netherlands what matters is what the bag is made of. You're legally forced to charge for a bag as a store if its made from plastic. Paper bags are always free. Something to do with the cost of the recycling I've been told. We have em hanging next to the register though as @onemanarmyy pointed out. Its not like they sneakily put stuff in bags and then charge you for it.

@thebojangler: The only thing "dumb" about the plastic bag ban is the fact that the Oil and Plastic Lobbyists and millionaires forced the government to allow concessions for keeping some plastic bags (the non-grocery stores and the produce bags). Because think of the *jobs*...oh wait, the oil/plastic industry is moving toward full automation anyway. :b

So there's this modest build up to episode 500. Rorie makes a thread, Jeff talks a bit about the history at the top of the show, and then....it's a very by-the-numbers episode of the podcast. I love you guys and I never miss an episode but talk about an anti-climax. Anyway it's episode 500 so I think you guys could use some reggae.

In most countries, including my own, was charging for plastic not a environmental solution to reduce waste and production?

Seems odd that it would not be the same for California.

I just tell them no bags and throw all the crap in a crate in the back of my car.

That's the point, to discourage people from using plastic bags.

I wonder who'll be left standing after the next 500? My guess is it'll just redirect to Jeff's Twitch channel at that point :^)

Man, the Borderlands 3 talk bums me out. As someone who really dislikes Destiny the idea of turning BL3 into more of that is super a huge bummer. Especially since it's such an obvious direction to go in. Hell it might even be fiscally irresponsible for them NOT to go in that direction.

It's fine in that I have more then enough other stuff to play but it still stings. It's like Diablo. To see a franchise I adored and sank absurd time into go after directions that reflect none of the reasons I loved it... It's dissapointing. The bandage that the directions they choose are what the majority ofthe audience really wants is a cold comfort.

A Destinified Borderlands could be huge! Gigantically successful! Lot's of people would love it, go crazy for it. But I'd just lose another series I already loved ;_;

Oh well. Reminds me of a thing Jeff's said before about comparing your favorite games sales numbers to what the actual best selling games do and realize no one gives a shit about your favorite games comparitively. I paraphrase of course :D

Silver lining though! There's honestly way to many games out there, great games no less, that do directly cater to even my tastes. A curse of bounty. One or two series is a small loss really.

Though the day I know not to bother with a Diablo 4 will still bum me out.

I understand If the PUBG guys want to be upset that their business partner cribed from them and used their name to advertise it.

But these guys don't own a mode. It's like rockstar bring mad EA made a gta clone right after gta3. Is it scummy? I don't think so, its business. If your game sinks or swims on someone else literally slapping together a mode for their game then maybe you should have made your game more dynamic before putting it out.

PUBG has done and will continue to do fine b/c it's PUBG, but I'm not upset that a big company is cribing from an indie dev when it's game is hot.

I think it was evident a few months ago that LawBreakers had peaked as a "news item" when it was announced, but slowly became something people became less excited about closer to launch. I was actually shocked that the game had already come out. I see it reviewed well, but it really didn't launch with much fanfare.

@fezrock: @Jeff mentioned that he went through the entire feed and added the podcasts up, excluding stuff like E3 and GOTY.

So the 500 should just be regular Tuesday episodes.

@avantegardener: I mentioned something like this in the video-cast comments section, but even in mostly-environmentally-conscious California, the Big Oil and Plastic corporations *freaked the fuck out* at the idea of a full plastic-bag ban. They launched a multi-million dollar propoganda barrage moaning about "lost jobs" and "big government" and "city's right to make their own leguslation", and funded extremely questionable research which suggested everything from "the reusable bags were made of toxic material" (which may be true if you burn a bag and intentionally inhale the fumes) to "reusable bags are infested with E.Coli", which is an extremely shakey assertion drawn from the suggestion that reusable bags eventually accumulate pocket lint, which has been shown in the past to contain *extremely* minute amounts of fecal material (because most people wear pants over their butts.)

In short, corporate lobbying can be extremely manipulative (and water is wet.)

Anywhoo, on-topic, yeah, eff the frat-boys who use their own games as a platform to show off how "extreeeeeme" their higher difficulty settings are. It was kind of funny back in the 1990s. It is no longer the 1990s.

Yeah, it's an environmental thing. I don't know. Jeff's just kinda crying for nothing here. I hear it all the time from plenty of people and it usually just comes down to being unwilling to adjust and/or selfishness.

Plus what DasaKamov said. The corporate propaganda push made it easier for people to justify their initial uneasiness about adjusting and experiencing slight inconveniences as they adjust to a plastic bag ban because it gave a bunch of completely horseshit reasons against it.

Jeff, you GOTTA do some sort of Endurance Run or other video content of Kane & Lynch for the anniversary. In many ways it was an event that propelled you, the site and probably all of video games media into what it is today

Big 500. Only been listening since 2014, but the Bombcast has been my number 1 priority podcast to listen to every week almost since I started. I miss when they didn't number them, though. Now they're just like everyone else.

Hearing the Destiny raid talk after seeing the first day of the Destiny 2 raid stream made me feel bad for Jason. He sounded so excited and nervous about doing the raid, but as we can see, he didn't end up as part of the group.

There's totally (or at least used to be) a show similar to the premise Jeff described of new chefs cooking stuff. I saw it once randomly when I was at someone's house. But the premise was that it was people like Dan who have no idea how to make anything learning simple stuff, like eggs. I think it was Bobby Flay and some other TV chef coaching people and whomever turned out the best as a result of the coaching won.

Yeah, was a bit of a bummer since the CAGcast also hit 500 earlier this year. I remember Jeff actually mentioning Shipwreck by name sometime in the past year on the Bombcast, so he at least knows of them.

Not quite sure I get the defending of the honor of PUBG. Jeff mentioned that Epic was bigger than Bluehole. I thought Bluehole had like double the staff. I don't know, the guys thoughts just seemed off to me. Maybe because PUBG has given them so much content, that they feel the need to toss aside Fortnite.

So Jeff confused the Enter Sandman video and the One video. But until he specifically mentioned "SOS / HELP," using the Enter Sandman video as the example would have also worked. 4D chess from Jeff.

Somehow missed this one at the time.

Gonna say it again, Bluehole complaining about Epic naming-dropping PUBG really doesn't come across well when they name-dropped Battle Royale to sell cosmetic items.
