My last Xbox was the launch 360. Is it weird that I am going to buy a Series X primarily to play Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts again?

Looks cool but I think I'm going for the PS5, since the 360 I haven't liked xbox that much, that series S looks tempting though, gamepass is a very good deal.

I think I'm pretty sold on the Series X now, especially with the added value of Gamepass.

It's kinda hard to get excited for Xbox's idea of a new generation that looks and plays identically to the one I've just come off.

I understand the back compat stuff is really cool and seeing the performance upgrade to old games is nice but when I buy a new box, I want new experiences.

Weird thing about the file system stuff on the xbox. There's an app (or there was, not sure if its still available) you can download from the store called "UFO transfer", it claimed it was for USB flash drive storage management or something like that :p Anyways if you turned off a specific video setting it would reveal a hidden UI option that would let you get into parts of the file system you couldn't normally. I did this to backup my minecraft world manually, but I'm pretty sure you could use it to do all kinds of cheatin' lol

Both consoles seem generally underwhelming so I'm pretty glad to have secured a 3080 so I have an excuse to save the money until there is a must play console only exclusive but for now I'm not seeing any particular reason to invest in either until there are some games worth playing. I watched IGNs footage of the Xbox series x and they spent like 30 mins in gears 5 because there really isn't any other games right now with the absence of big launch day titles.

This "half generation" "consoles as a service" thing really removes a lot of shine from a new generation when it isn't ever actually new it's just an iteration of the same. This is what other reviews tend to be saying as well this is just the better Xbox one x.

It's a hell of a deal though and an impressive piece of tech to be able to push 4K*120 and even 4K 60 isn't an easy task with the visuals I've seen. I just wish there was more to the consoles or the games were making it feel truly next generation.

Brad's wild camera flailing in the Gears multiplayer is the closest I've gotten to nauseous watching a video game be played. Something about the speed of it combined with being shrunk to sub-1080 and at an unknown framerate on the video buddy app looked very unnatural. These games are going to be tough to cover, particularly given the various circumstances, covid and otherwise. Good luck duders.

I'm not interested in playing a single one of the games in this stream. The great thing is that I still have so many interesting games available I can't find the time to play them all. Unfortunately for Sony and MS that means I will probably wait for a year or two before upgrading.

The consoles are one step closer to PC power........aaaand it's gone.

the Series S seems like the most worthless system of all time, why not put a disk drive in that thing? Also, the naming of this gen is the worst of any console ever, I can't even imagine all the disappointed kids getting a one x and one s for christmas this year.

Jeff's TV should be able to do 120hz at 1080p (think he has an LG C7 or C8), pretty sure these next gen systems are aiming at 4k 60fps. Buying a new TV seems a little pointless, unless he's hooking up a beefy boy PC to a new LG.

Thanks for this preview. Personally, I already made up my mind to get a PS5, but I'm happy for the fans of Xbox. They seem to have gotten a sold next-gen system. And gamepass is fire.

It sure seems like neither of these machines should launch this year except they are because of the holiday spending spree.

Since PC graphics card pricing has gotten so offensive, I'm definitely eyeing up this Xbox as a PC-upgrade replacement in the near-ish future. My only question is how much the PC and console gamepass will cross over (both games and control-wise) and what that backwards compatibility really looks like in practice.

Jeff remarking that he feels like the load times are slower on S compared to X is something I was curious about since it was first announced that the S would have a smaller SSD than the X. SSD performance tends to change with capacity differences (as more NAND chips are able to distribute reads and writes), so I'm curious if anyone has done any benchmarking to compare the S and X's SSDs? I doubt that a ~5% CPU clock speed difference would amount to a perceptible difference like he describes.

I've got to say, the fact that these are all "old" games, does take the excitement out of it for me.

There is nothing intresting at the moment on new consoles. Until some "new games" will show up i will main pc. Just secured the new nvidia gpu. Funny enough I found that most of these shiny aaa games bores me to death these days. I reinstalled the Baldurds gate 2 and already sinked 40 hours. Havent enjoy video game so much for a while with exception of maybe Hades recently.

Brad says hitting the share button takes a screenshot instantly, like on PS4... either my PS4 Pro is totally busted, or Brad hasn't used the share button on PS4 in years... because when I press the share button, it might take a screenshot at least a minute later

On the PC it did, but I believe on base consoles it ran at 30fps, and on the Pro and X it had a 1080p 60fps mode and a 4k (not really) 30fps mode.

You are most likely aware, but default behavior is to "press and hold" to take a screenshot. Because that makes sense. I think a few years into the life of the PS4 they listened to reason and added an option to change the behavior in the "Sharing and Broadcasts" menu. Under "SHARE Button Control Type" the "Easy Screenshots" option does exactly what it says.

With "Easy Screenshots", tapping the button will immediately take a screenshot. The small notification will show up delayed by a few seconds, but be assured the picture will show exactly what was on screen at the time of the button press.

The indicator delay is actually great because for some reason PS4 screenshots are hard-coded to contain the overlay, including the screenshot indicator. This makes taking multiple clean screenshots in quick succession a pain on PS4. Why is it that way? No one knows. Thanks Sony.

There are a lot of, let's say, "extreme fans" when it comes to games. The Rare ones are always the most baffling to me.

Like... I'm not going to besmirch stuff like Solar Jetman; it was a different era. And I totally get why Goldeneye was such a big deal at the time.

But I also get why no one cares about Perfect Dark, except the Rare devout.

Rare has never made a game I liked. Which is fine. But some people act like the idea of them having been developers on par with companies like Capcom, or old Konami, as if that's just common knowledge and a universal consensus. Which is also fine. But also super crazy to me.

Rare Replay is a beautifully constructed package full of some truly mediocre games.

Low key Xbox take also; having never owned one before I'm kind of thinking it looks better then the PS5 so far feature wise? Still getting a PS5 instead but I'm a little jealous of some of the stuff here and I've not really seen anything that cool over in Sony land the Xbox is missing.
