I don't often use past tense to describe things I continue to do.

They used past tense because it was an old game and also because they used the expression "a long time ago" to refer to said game. All I know is that they're not explicitly and directly saying he's no longer a plumber.

Holy crap, I was just thinking about Shogo the other day. I couldn't remember what the game was called for the life of me, but as soon as Vinny said it while he was running down the list of releases I was like, "that's it! Fucking Shogo!"

@zurv: So I've been playing the shit out of the xcom2 expansion, I think I like it a lot. It's kinda crappy that they have fixed a bunch of bugs/crashes/problems/load times of the original release of xcom 2 with this expansion, and have zero plans of porting any of those bug fixes to the original game (the one with all the problems), essentially forcing you to buy the expansion if you want a game that runs (I had system-crashing bugs in the original xcom 2 that required cutting the power to my PC). But it's a good game.

I especially like being able to do "covert ops" that lower the Advent progress bar, instead of always having to make contacts in whatever zone they have a building.

As an italian-italian, not italian-american, i find zero things offensive about Mario. It's just a funny cartoon caricature of an italian immigrant. If anyone ever used Mario to make fun of an italian-whatever kid it's on them being a dick, not on Nintendo or Mario.

I feel like Dan and Abby don't understand the question about the genie. As for Vinny saying the Genie might plant some sort of evil suggestion that just seems dumb. Just because your choices might have been better doesn't mean that your current situation is any better or worse.

At least that fucking better be the case, as a Beastcast without Jeff wouldn't be a Beastcast at all.

@synthesis_landale: There is zero chance Persona 5 is a GOTY contender on this site. Only Alex and Ben played/liked it, and they don't seem like they absolutely loved it. I think Vinny played a little bit, but he fell off, and Jeff didn't like the few hours he played.

If everyone on the site loved it and was raving about it, to the point where it was clear that it was going to be a serious contender for the top spot (like Doom or Hitman were last year at this time), maybe Dan would give it a few hours just to see what it was, but that's definitely not the case. And it's not necessarily his job to play every video game that is released, or even every notable game. There's always games brought up in GOTY discussions that not everyone on the staff played. Brad didn't play Undertale the year it released, and it ended up on the top 10 (which Persona 5 probably won't).

I'd like to point out that "The Disaster Artist", a movie about the masterpiece that is "The Room", is coming to theaters near you. Starring James Franco as Tommy Wiseau as well as a frequent guest on the Beastcast, our very own Seth Rogen.

For Sonic Mania holding right is literally the worst advice anyone could give you about playing Sonic. Lol. It's a platformer that's all about verticality. Explore as much as possible. If you ever stop and think "should I spindash?" just do it and be ready to jump because that's generally a better move than stopping dead.

I think Austin Walker is more likely, he definitely said it on a GB thing with Vinny before and it was a point of discussion then.

@efesell: Fair enough I didn't look closely at the dates and not everyone cares about every piece of news I picked, (although that's a pretty high standard). On the other hand maybe I'd do a better job if I was getting paid to do it, instead of just being irritated/motivated by the constant "no news, sorry" from the beastcast when I've been reading about interesting news all week.

I really hope that Persona 5 comes up in the game of the year talks, I know that it won't win as I highly doubt any JRPG would win on GB but it would be nice to see them talk about it at least. P5 was easily the best game that I played this year, it was amazing from hour 1 till hour 137. Hell, everything I start a different game I just think about replaying P5.

What's with the disdain for "Clive Barkers Undying"? That game is great. The other Clive Barker name attached game not so much.

@schnoo: Vinny can read Italian. He read the Witcher books in Italian a few years ago, before they were all translated into English.

When people opine that they hope Game X (in this case Persona 5) come up in GOTY talks, it always flummoxes me. What is it that you want them to say? Two of the staff played it to completion and neither adored it to the level that would bring about some hard fought battle. They can only rank what they play for the most part, or in cases where the argument for an unplahed is strong enough that it wins out. This scenario is unlikely to have any of those things. So what are you hoping for?

2007 was a pretty good year for games. Super Mario Galaxy, BioShock, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, God of War II, Rock Band, Mass Effect, The Orange Box/Portal, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, PaRappa the Rapper, Forza Motorsport 2, G.R.A.W 2, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, Crackdown, and The Darkness to name a few.

The Room is a fantastic Film & 40's choice.

Why are people so eager to replace the 3DS with the Switch? I don't to carry a Switch around with me like I would a 3DS; it's big and heavy and it has a short battery life. I know they're both portable but I don't see them as comparable.
