Overview
Sleepwalker, not to be confused with the 1991 game of the same name, is a comedic side-scrolling puzzle-platformer developed by CTA Developments and published by Ocean for the Amiga, Atari ST, and DOS PC computers exclusively in Europe in early 1993, with Amiga CD32 and Commodore 64 releases later in the year.
In Sleepwalker, players guide the anthropomorphic cartoon dog Ralph (voiced by British comedian Lenny Henry) around the environment to escort his sleepwalking owner to the goal. As Ralph is trying to prevent his master from waking up abruptly (and from general harm), he often puts himself in dangerous situations (which he can handle, having cartoon-style invincibility).
CTA Developments and Ocean repurposed the game a year later for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as Eek! The Cat, which is based on the animated series of the same name. A similar game based on the Rocko's Modern Life animated series was released in the same year.
Early UK releases of the game was sponsored by the British charity Comic Relief, with sales contributing to the fund and a special tie-in fundraising event. The PC version was also released in North America in 1994 in CD-ROM format and also received a modern PC digital re-release by Piko Interactive on April 13, 2018.
Gameplay
Bonus Levels
In most versions of the game, collecting the letters BONUS (known in the Amiga version as COMIC) brings the player to a bonus level where Ralph is running around in a dream, attempting to form words relating to the last stage's hazards (for example, LAMP + POSTBOX - BOX = LAMP POST) for bonus points.
For each hazard collected, up to 6 per stage, players can witness a small cutscene of Ralph's owner being comically harmed by the hazard in question.
