Grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory 0

When I first heard about Star Wars: The Force Unleashed last year, my hopes were high. The pieces seemed to be in place for a Star Wars renaissance of sorts. And while the original story and some of the force powers are entertaining in spurts, the obvious 1990s style gameplay missteps take center stage in the long run, and make The Force Unleashed a game that frustrates more often than it captivates. The most glaring, and perhaps most frustrating things about The Force Unleashed are gameplay flaw...

The Force Unleashed: Sausage Review 2

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed partially reminds me of The Godfather: The Game. I know that is a very odd comparison, but in both games you're basically the character who was behind so much without ever being seen in any of the films. While The Godfather beat you over the head with this feeling, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is much more subdued and it benefits greatly from this. While The Force Unleashed has a pretty good story, especially compared to the latest Star Wars films, the rest of th...

    Presentation Unleashed 0

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is an interesting product, being the first Star Wars game on the Xbox 360 and PS3, in addition to being the first one that has been officially declared canon by George Lucas himself, as opposed to part of the larger "Extended Universe". Some aspects of this ambitious product succeed, while others fall quite flat.TFU will have you playing as a "secret apprentice" of Darth Vader, codenamed Starkiller, in the time period between Episodes III and IV, making it the firs...

A great story put into terrible gameplay. 0

Graphics:    Star Wars: The Force Unleashed may have good graphics on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but it falls short on the Wii in almost every aspect, the textures are just absolutely terrible on the objects and the characters. Although the graphics may look fairly decent at times, it looks atrocious. The cutscenes look like they didn't even put any effort into the graphical presentation at all.Gameplay:   The only thing saving the gameplay in this version of TFU, is the Wiimote controls an...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a highly entertaining romp 1

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is another title to add to Star Wars' impressive game library. However, when working with such a big franchise name, developers tend to prefer getting their title out quickly instead of making sure it's a quality game. As a result, the Star Wars videogame library consists of a lot of terrible games with the occasional excellent one to shake things up. Obviously, the next question is whether or not The Force Unleashed belongs to this small group of excellent games. ...

What levels it succeeds on can't match up to its faults 0

The Force unleashed should have been one of the greatest games of 2008; it should have perched itself as a nominee for GOTY; it should have given Star Wars geeks all that more canon story to add to their catalogue. TFU was meant to do a lot of things, but sadly only managed to live up to a few.As a story it does at least give some more insight into the destruction of the Jedi , the birth of the Rebel Alliance and even more character development for everybody's favourite robotic asmastic. There i...

Promised the ultimate experience, but falls short 0

The Star Wars universe is one of the most expansive in modern fiction and allows for the creation of games that explore the initial success of the films. The lucrative franchise has given birth to some of the most impressive games but also shows how such a popular entity can be misrepresented and misconstrued.  From its initial announcement, The Force Unleashed has been advertized as the ultimate Star Wars experience. An experience which will not only let the player control Darth Vader’s omnipo...

Star Wars- The Force Unleashed... almost... 0

After all the hype surrounding this game, it doesn't quite deliver, but sure doesn't disappoint.  TFU is truly a remarkable piece of work, putting together Euphoria and other physics engines that make the game truly 'unleashed'. You start the game off with a killer tutorial playing as the masked metal-head himself, DARTH VADER. But soon, you get to control Darth Vader's secret apprentice, called Starkiller. not to ruin the plot, the story is not bad, taking your character to a wide variety of lo...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is.... there. 0

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a game that has had my expectations rising and falling since I first heard of it.  Yet, instead of it being a horrible rip off of the Star Wars universe, or on the other end a completely new, amazing gameplay experience, it sort of ended up in between, not really doing either one.To start off, this is an action game.  Its as simple as that.  You can certainly look at it, watch it being played, or even play it for a bit yourself, and state with some real level of...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Review 1

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the game meant to bridge together the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy. While this may be the main draw for fans of series, I found the gameplay to be enjoyable, while not without its faults. You play as Starkiller, the secret apprentice of Darth Vader. You are then sent around the galaxy to do his bidding, i.e.; kill everything. But in all seriousness, the story is actually quite satisfying to play through. Even with its gameplay quirks. While the game i...

Star Wars the Force unleashed: A Review by KingreX32 0

Star Wars the Force unleashed is the newest game in the Star wars Series. It was developed by Krome Studios and published by Lucasarts. It was released on September 16th 2008 for all consoles and handhelds. The Force Unleashed is a very important game in the Star Wars series because it bridges the gap between the two trilogies. (Between episode 3 and 4 for those who don’t know) Players take controls of Starkiller, Vader’s secret apprentice who is tasked with hunting down the last few remaining Je...

    Not worth the Price. 0

The Jedi Temple DLC pack for the Force Unleashed is a quick fun way to add-on to the experience, but the price tag on it makes it not worth it. The "Jedi Temple" DLC requires you to start a new game to do the mission, you cannot jump to the level from your current game. This already creates a hassle. I had trouble finding the DLC at first. The Apprentice actaully has all the upgrades for the mission, so at least you have a maxed out character. The story of the DLC is also not that interesting. I...

    The Force Goes Portable 0

To start with, I don't think I can give any game that hasn't been out for a while a 5 star rating, as part of that rating to me is a question of how much fun can I have with the game over an extended period of time. With that said, I can't give Force Unleashed a 4 star rating, as I feel like the graphics over all aren't up to what's possible with the system. However, I think 3 stars is a bit low, as there is more customization and replay value than I would expect from a 3 star game.  So, ...

*Insert generic Star Wars quote here* 1

Star Wars - one of the most beloved franchises ever - has been treated to its fair share of good and bad games. The Jedi Knight series best captured what it’s like to wield the power of the Force but LucasArts’ latest title, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, looks to show you what the Force is really capable of. With brand new technology under its belt and a tie to the movies, the hype machine has certainly been rolling. But does it succeed? If the first level is anything to go by, then yes. You s...

Another mediocre Star Wars game, who would've known? 1

When it comes down to it, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a very average third-person brawler with a decent story. It likes to talk big, impress you with epic set-pieces and grand gestures, but, ultimately, it can never fulfil upon its promises or overcome its fundamental flaws. The story takes place between Episodes III and IV in the Star Wars universe, effectively bridging the gap between the new and old saga. You play as Starkiller, Vader’s newly crowned Sith apprentice. Having killed Star...

The Force is with you, but not in the controller 0

For a game that is about mystical powers and controlling this ‘spiritual’ presence called the force, you’d think they would have spent more time working out the actual translation of that into the function of the buttons on the xbox360 controller.   The clunky, sluggish button controls are the game’s biggest deficit.   There are moments where the lack of accurate control, inability to complete combo key moves, or simply do one button moves will drive you crazy, especially with the higher diffic...

Wow, so this game is finally here. For about a year and a half I've been eagerly anticipating this game, checking out every screenshot or video I could get a hold of.Well, like I said, this game is finally here, and could it be more disappointing?First of all the camera is abysmal, almost as bad as the camera in Ninja Gaiden. The camera isn't 'so' bad during regular combat, but during boss fights the camera is so bad it made me want to rip the game out of my disk tray and break the damn thing in h...

Best Star Wars Game I’ve played in a while. 0

The last Star Wars game I played was Knight of the Old Republic.  I watched plenty of videos of the Force Unleashed and I thought it looked pretty good.  When I first started the game I thought the controls were pretty bad.  I couldn’t force grab and throw anything the right way.  I did set my intial play through this game on the above normal difficulty.  The story and challenge of the game kept me wanting to play it more.  About middle way through the game, I was hooked.  The controls were a m...

Worthy of the Star Wars name, but with a few complaints 0

First of all, this game is great. Not a masterpiece by any means, but great. The story is definitely very good, but a bit short. The production values are outstanding. Great graphics all around. Physics engine is great. Character models are detailed. Nice environments, especially outdoors. Disappearing bodies sucks though. The sound is very Star Wars, and well placed. The gameplay is also very strong. Great use of the force. There are lots of powers you can use. The lightsaber is not as bad as p...

Luke Skywalker better start running... 1

Remember when George Lucas woke up one morning on his inter galactic ranch (well in his mind he must of been in outer space) and he decided to do 3 Star Wars films? Remeber how magnificent they were and how everyone who watched them fell in love with the story and the solid, not-wooden, acting?Yeah me neither.See the first big plus point that goes to the Force Unleashed is that it's a story that is much more appealing visually and with regards to characters than the result of Episodes I,II&I...

Star Wars : The Force Unleashed : An action/adventure game based on the Star Wars universe where players control an all-too-powerful dark Jedi knight, capable of incredible feats beyond anything seen in any of the movies. I’d rather not say that this makes Luke Skywalker and such seem like pantywaists in comparison to this “Starkiller” chap, and instead just say that your belief is going to be rather suspended, even by the standards normally held by the bizarre fiction that is Star Wars.Story : ...

An OK Star Wars Game 0

I cannot say that I am a Star Wars fanatic. I enjoy the movies, sure, and I’ve played several different Star Wars videogames, so I came into “The Force Unleashed” with an expectation of liking the gameplay and not caring much about the story itself. Little did I know how much my opinion would change after playing it. The story of “The Force Unleashed” is phenomenal. The twists were unexpected and this game really shed a new light on the Star Wars series as a whole. The gameplay, however, was...

    Decent but nothing special 0

This game is an average game, good in the beginning but then it gets boring and repetitive.  It was fun going back to missions and getting holocrons but then there's nothing to do.  The difficulty is a good feature because it's pretty accurate and distinct differences.  The graphics are a little above average just because they did such a beautiful job with Bump Mapping.  If you look closely you'll notice that everything that looks 3-D isn't, it's just Bump Mapped (all the textures, that is).  In...

Lets get things out of the way. I am a massive Star Wars fan, i mean obsessive. Also I was playing on Sith Lord difficulty and the entire game can be extremely frustrating. You play the game as Darth Vaders secret apprentice Starkiller (as if you didnt know that) and the story takes place between episode 3 and 4. The scary thing is for the first time since the 70s the best bit of this Star Wars franchise is the story. It is tied together with a compeling moral choice between good and bad and enti...

Good Mechanics and Story, but short 0

For me, this game was a lot like Assassin's Creed. The character design was phenominal and the gameplay really drew you into the main character. As you destroy hordes of storm troopers, you can really get into the powers and controls for Starkiller. Even the quicktime sequences are better than most others. However, like Assassin's Creed, this game felt more of a techincal demo. The gameplay was short, about 6 hours. Sometimes, the game was also very repetitive. Finally, the story was awesome. In ...

    Better than expected 0

I went into Star Wars Force Unleashed with a certain amount of trepidation.  I had been really looking forward to the game but due to some unfavourable reviews which bemoaned lots of bugs I was not so sure it would be the game I had originally hoped.  Thankfully my fears were mostly unfounded and I have really enjoyed playing through the game albeit as a rental.  The gameplay is very much combo based button mashing with force powers and a lightsaber at your command.  The use of Sith lightning,...

Unleash the force, unleash the fun. 0

When one reads the title “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” they can expect two things. The game will be set in the Star Wars universe and that you will unleash the force on some imperial scum. What might not be evident is if the game will be a good star wars licensed game or not. Well, as it turns out, the game is good. The game is worthy of the star wars name and you do unleash some force on some imperial weaklings.      The story in The Force Unleashed is very strong. The story and actin...

An enjoyable Star Wars romp, with a decent story... 0

First of all - The Force Unleashed on the whole is very enjoyable play. The elements that shine and breath life into it are the story and the characters. The characters are interesting and well written, and the canon characters who we know from old are expanded nicely, and behave believably... Even if the Emperor seems significantly more powerful at the end than 'Return of the Jedi' would have you believe... Without giving too much away you play a 'Galen Marek' stolen as a child by Dar...

    Mashing X: The Game 0

I found myself repeatedly mashing the ‘X’ button, mindlessly slashing my way through countless waves of Stormtroopers. The action would be abruptly interrupted by an incoming cinematic, a signal of poor design. A game of hallways and pointless collectibles always awaited me every time I booted up the 2008 software, reminding me of an archaic design that may not be too appealing in the world eight years later. Freaky faces always took precedence over a respectable art style that would...

    Lame and buggy 0

I didnt have very high hopes for this one. The reviews said it all. The story was great, but everything else was subpar and barely worth your time. Now this was on the consoles, so when they ported(not brought, ported) to the PC it was done in a sloppy manner. There are NO graphics options, the game has to load between menus, and the framerate caps out at 30 FPS. The controls are at least adapted to the PC, which is nice I guess. On top of all this, the game just isnt that fun! I felt bored hone...

From the hours i've played the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Sith Edition on the pc, i am far disappointed with the outcome.  The story is the same as the previous releases on the ps3, xbox, ds, psp and wii, with slight variations, similar of what happen between the ps3 and xbox version and the wii and ps2.  Some scenes appear differently, others are added to complete and add entertainment.   The new dlcs are brief and without much interest as they appear ludicrous, like the many martial artist...

Mini Review: The force is strong with this PSP 0

This is a review of the PSP version of The Force Unleashed. In some ways I don't need to point that out since one of the most impressive things about this game is that it isn't a downgraded port. Obviously the graphics aren't on par but everything else in this game is exactly the same as the console version. It even has a set of extra levels that pad out the game a little bit. The story may not be relevant anymore but it does a good job of setting up Dark Vader's hidden apprentice along with th...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has an interesting take in developing likeable characters, story, and gameplay. Fortunately, it does all of these very successfully. The Force Unleashed keeps you motivated all the way through with its interesting story and excellent gameplay, making you feel like the badass Jedi you always wanted to be.The game takes place during the forty years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. I've always been a bit of Star Wars nut and this game does has it's fun and over-the-top moments. The one part of the game I cannot overlook are the damn boss battles though. The gameplay as a whole is pretty balanced out and the flow of playing through the game (a few trick-ups here and there aside) the game is a fun one to sit down and blow through except for the damn bosses. When the 2nd boss of the game is so impossibly hard to beat that it makes you want to throw the game in the garbage... ...

Game has potential but it is too short to get player full feel from powers.  Another installment in ongoing Star Wars series where every character is somehow connected to someone from original saga. Force Unleashed is nice experience as a next gen action game. We are the Apprentice big secret of Lord Darth Vader. Our master has some missions for us and we do them. But there is something more to our character that will be revealed during game with 2 different endings (yes we choose side). Gr...

A interesting story mixed with equally fun and annoying gameplay. 0

The Force Unleashed is an interesting little entity. It connects itself right into the story of the original trilogy without virtually any of it ever being mentioned in the movies. It might sound dodgy story-wise as hell but it actually works. You play the game as Starkiller, who was saved by Vader as a child and became his secret apprentice.  The game will take you to some intriguing locations and has some entertaining game mechanics but there will be quite a few moments that you'll want to str...

Words cannot convey the disappointment I had while playing this game. If you played the demo, forget that you did. It's nothing like the regular game. While playing it, it felt like some kind of prototype for the next game announcement. "See what we did, and NOW DA DA DUH DA! We've made it better." If you do any amount of research you'll see virtually every review saying the same thing but we're not ones to take serious writers reviews too serious.  So here's my serious review. That<em> yo...

A Good Game with frustrating elements 0

This game is a pretty good Star Wars fan boys delight. I wouldn't say I'm a big Star Wars fan, but I had fun playing the game. Unfortunately that fun was tempered by considerable frustration with the controls which were less than perfect. Having the ability to use The Force would as you expect lead to some pretty cool situations however the controls didn't feel entirely right and there were plenty of times my character would ultimately not do what I was hoping it to do. The problem rested largel...

Video Game Review: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 0

George Lucas is not unlike the Force. Like the Force, George has a Light and a Dark Side. When he was at One with the Light Side, George blessed the galaxy with Light Sabers, Force Lightning and TIE Fighters. On the days he had Given in to Hate, we got midichlorians, Anakin Skywalker and Jar Jar Binks. So, which George gave us Star Wars: the Force Unleashed: Jedi Master Lucas or George, Dark Lord of the Sith? The answer, like Qui-Gonn Jinn, lies somewhere in between. Let’s start w...

    God of StarWars 0

The Force Unleashed attempts to establish another story arc and character to the StarWars universe, in the form of Vader’s apprentice. Unfortunately, although the story is interesting, the gameplay and force powers are not. Essentially a God of War clone, The Force Unleashed suffers from poor level design and lacklustre combat that never really manages to be anything other than competent. There were better sword-based action games last year (2008), such as Viking: Battle for Asgard.      (Review...

Interesting story, but gameplay doesn’t achieve greatness. 0

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a third-person action game, which is hindered by a poor lock-on mechanic and a little clunky combat system. On the other hand it tells an original Star Wars story that is interesting from start to finish. SECRET APPRENTICE Force Unleashed takes place between episodes 3 (Revenge of the Sith) and 4 (the New Hope). Darth Vader takes himself a new apprentice called Starkiller and sets him off to do some wet work. Goal is to annihilate all the remaining jedi w...
