Video Review - Tacoma
Tacoma is the latest space disaster tale from Fullbright, the company behind Gone Home. Those looking for an experience with more interaction than the team's last game should look elsewhere. Tacoma is very much in the same vein as its predecessor. The game follows Amy Ferrier, a contractor sent to an abandoned space station in order to collect its central AI. Along the way Amy encounters fragments of recorded AR recordings and begins to piece together what happened on the station. These AR segments are what make up the core of the game and its most compelling feature. Most areas of the station have a central event that the other characters experience and it is up to the player to follow them as they go about their business, occasionally intersecting with the others and slowly fleshing out the situation. Its a novel mechanic but unfortunately the rest of the story-telling isn't always as strong. Much of the world-building is done with loads of emails, texts, and letters spread throughout the space station. Its these moments when the game hits a bit of a lull, even with its relatively short run time. Overall, its highs outshine its lows and Tacoma is still worth seeing.
