Van Redd Reviews: Wet
Wet is an interesting game. It is not going to win Game of the Year on anyone's list. It is not going to revolutionize the industry. It is not going to be remembered years form now as a hallmark or watershed title that broke boundaries. What WET does, and does well, is put you into a pseudo sequel to Grind House. If you are the type to enjoy this is going to be determined by a number of factors.
Major Issue 1) The grainy filter over the screen may be a deal breaker for some. It never bothered me and I actually felt it added to the game. However I know some people may get disoriented by it and while you CAN turn it off...the game just loses something with out it.
Major Issue 2) You are going to be spending a LOT of time in slow motion....A LOT! In fact you may think your in The Matrix by the amount of slow mo in this game. If you jump and shoot...SLOW MO!...slide and shoot? SLOW MO! Go to the bathroom? SLOW MO!
The game gets kind of repetitive around the halfway point or so but it is a fairly fun time throughout. The story is mostly throw away but then again so it the kind of stories the narrative is based on so I'm not sure if it should count against it. The acting is ho-hum and uneven but gets the job done, again, not unlike the source material.
FINAL WORD: Give it a rent, buy if you like...IN SLOW MO! However, if you wanted a controller during Planet Terror...this game is for you.
