    On the same day as Kingpin: Life of Crime was released in 1999, Xatrix Entertainment decided to rename the studio to Gray Matter Interactive. Although no official word on why it changed its name it was probably due to the fact that Kingpin: Life of Crime suffered heavy criticism for its over-the-top violence. The game was released close to the Columbine shooting, and a congressman even blamed the game for the tragedy that had occurred. Several big retailers refused to sell the game after that, and Xatrix decided to re-release the game with toned down violence and bleeped over profanities.
