    Alan Wake: The Writer Review

Alan Wake's story gets stretched just a little bit more. After following the light of Zane, you are faced with the reality that you are trapped somewhere in the Darkness. You'll have to get back through to the cabin, but the world you exist in splinters more. There will be plenty of enemies that will try to block your way, but you must press on in hopes that you'll be able to rid yourself of this twisted world. Unlike The Signal, this DLC entry gets back to what made Alan Wake amazing, in my mind. You will have to be constantly on guard. Yes, you'll still have to deal with your rantings on random TVs, but this piece seems to flow better.

If I could change one thing about this DLC entry, and apparently the last one for the game, it would be that The Signal get a dose of The Writer, and then they were combined. I felt deeply saddened when I yet again sprinted through the content in the DLC and found myself watching the ending credits. I'm sure for the perfectionist out there it probably takes a bit longer because you're trying to get 100% achievements, but for me I wanted to know more about the story, I could care less about how many thermoses, video games, or alarm clocks I picked up. One of my favorite parts of this DLC was the use of the lighthouse, it gave you a chance to see what light could truly do to that world of darkness.

I don't know what the future holds for Alan Wake as a person and a franchise, but I hope that I get to see more of this type of game. I wish I could say that I'd like to go back and play the game again, but the fact is I already know where the story will go, and that to me takes some of the bite out of the game. I do have to say though if you want a survival game with a very interesting backstory, and lots of shock moments as enemies come at you from every angle, you should definitely pick this game up.

For this DLC, it was an ending, an ending that I really didn't want to see, but it gave the player some closure in the end. I wish to see more, but until then I guess all I can do is give this DLC a score, and with that The Writer DLC gets an 8.7 out of 10.

The Writer, the second DLC for Remedy's moody "action-thriller" Alan Wake takes what's best about the original game and puts, quite literally, a new spin on it. It's the same length as most chapters in the game, taking a bit over an hour to complete. We find Alan still trapped in the Dark Place trying to regain his sanity in order to continue his fight for freedom. Helped by the presence of Thomas Zane, Alan must confront his own fears and memories in order to survive. There are three or four maj...
