Activision Probably Making That New TMNT Game

This makes way more sense than the rumors that were going around.

Would you trust these turtles with your children?
Would you trust these turtles with your children?

Look, the idea of Rocksteady Studios applying their expertise to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game remains a really great good idea. I mean, hell, the series has a character named Rocksteady.

Besides the fact that it doesn’t make any sense given how the licensing works out, it appears another company is already in cahoots with the turtles: Activision.

TMNT fansite Ninja Pizza (which is a really great name for a TMNT fansite, by the way) went through a series of photos taken by ToyArk from the ongoing Toy Fair in New York and noticed Activision was mentioned as a partner for TMNT in 2012.

In my dreams, though, Rocksteady is still making that game.

So does that mean that the turtles will be enjoying cool, refreshing Coca-Cola products with every pizza?

Wait, when did Activision get the TMNT game rights? Last I heard, Ubisoft had them.

I miss the TMNT and would love a new game. Preferably not a remake or rehash of every other TMNT game.

So it would seem. Here's hoping Activision does better with it than Ubi did (but considering how they've handled the Bond license so far, that probably won't be happening!).

Mildly interested but it's going to take a pretty solid game to get me to come back after the disappointment of how TMNT ReShelled turned out. Hopefully Activision can do better.

In the meantime I'll just keep bumpin' this song by the TMNT band.

that's also why the TMNT NES game has been pulled from virtual console this week. konami's license for the old stuff expired as well.

digital distribution definitely is NOT the best way for the industry to go :/

Bummer. Rocksteady seemed like a pretty solid fit.

Give it to Raven? They go up and down but there is potential there.

I understand where you're coming from but that's pretty quick to judge (granted, I'm kind of judging too quickly in the opposite direction)

Batman plays like Batman because thet's how Batman plays. I'm inclined to believe they would've built a totally different game to try to capture the speed and teamwork that's core to the Turtles - hopefully to the same degree they captured the pace and methodicalness (methodicalness?) of Batman.

I have more faith in activision then i do ubi, what i don't have faith in a game based on a TV show, which this game looks to be based on.

Especially when the show itself looks absolutely terrible, and this is coming from a turtle fanatic, who has been a fanatic for over 20 years. The style they are going with is absolutely terrible. But.. i do applaud them for doing classic turtle figures, i will most defiantly buy those up, i just hope they allow NECA to do more turtle stuff.

While my love of the original series knows no bounds, pretty much everything out of TMNT in the last decade has been... Mediocre at best.

I guess I want to give Activision the benefit of the doubt.

@Tebbit: Nostalgia will do that to you. The 4Kids TMNT cartoon is on a completely higher level than the original cartoon, and the Turtles Forever film was an amazing send off to both eras. I think that any turtles fan who feels the same as you should at the very least seek out the latter.

As for the topic at hand: boo. I sense Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 with a TMNT motif coming on. Please shock me and pump out something awesome instead.

I remember the Rocksteady rumor being plausible because of all the non-lethal fighting and gadgets that the Turtles in a Half Shell use.

Oh well, more licensed dreck from Activision.

Hmmm.,...good news? It depends on who Activision puts on the job. Amongst their non-Call of Duty studios, they have Skylanders' Toys for Bob (that would be good), Vicarious Visions (could go either way), Spiderman's Beenox, High Moon Studios (that would be AMAZING), and...uh...Neversoft. If they're still around - they haven't done anything since Bobby Kotick forced them to ram Guitar Hero into the ground. Raven could also probably do a great job, if they worked off their Wolverine engine...but I'm 100% certain they're in "forced labor mode", cranking out shit for Call of Duty map packs or who-gives-a-fuck. I fucking can't stand COD.

Here's hoping we get a great game out of this. Any of those studios SHOULD be able to knock out a great, new TMNT game based on Nickelodeon's new series.

But man, a Skylanders approach - using a "Pizza of Power" pedestal (I'm calling the name, right there) - is already hurting my wallet. It would totally make sense though. I'm surprised Activision hasn't ordered High Moon to include that functionality for Transformers already...

God dammit... the possibility of Rocksteady reviving the Turtles hadn't even crossed my mind until reading this, now I could not be more disappointed. All in the span of the 10 seconds it took to read the friggin article. Thanks Patrick.

If the Activision/toyline connection is true, I don't see how this wouldn't end up going the Skylanders route. Which means they'll have to cram in as many playable characters as possible, which means it'll most likely end up being another 2D fighter like Smash Up or something. Thanks Patrick.

@UltimAXE: Wow, I didn't even know that movie existed. I'll definitely check into it. And you're right, that 4Kids TMNT was totally OK, I think by the time that came around I had just stopped being so heavily influenced by cartoons, so it didn't impact me like the original series did.

Damn and my hopes were really high too! Really high...

But not anymore. Bobby Kotick will take one look at the game and go "I don't get it" and then he'll throw left overs from 6 various companies of which 1 has made a solid real game at it all at once while trying to shoe horn in "Picatinny Rails", 15 Hours of Quick Time Cinematics, and 45 physics driven normal mapped american flags before they just up and cancel the whole thing entirely.

Allow me to exhale.
