Sony should just call this handheld "The Playstation Four" as it's the next release in the Playstation brand.
  
This would also see Sony's next home console being called the PS5, automatically making it pawn the Xbox 720 in all fanboys minds (see bellow)
 

I'll probably get used to it, but man is it a terrible, terrible name. It sounds like a super-market product marketed towards 50-year old suburbanites.   
 
Who came up with the name? Did they focus test anyone under 40? Vita - sounds like a generic vitamins brand. Remember to take your vitas kids!

Make something and put great games on it and I'll buy it. However, slick hardware with shit for software is pretty useless. That's why I've never felt compelled to buy a PSP and I'm not looking toward owning this.

Though it will probably be a failure outside the gaming community, I want one and don't care about the name, it could been alot worse.

I like it. It's exactly the name of a drink that I adore. Also, the handheld will mostly be referred to by it's acronym like with everything else. PSV sounds fine.

It's just a name. It'll catch once the thing is out, just like it always do.

"Vita" is certainly better than "Wii". At least it is evocative of good things, like vitality and water and vitamins and doings things quickly.

We will all get used to it and then it will just seem natural. I never expected to get accustomed to saying X-Box, Dreamcast, and Wii. Now it is just second nature.  Vita makes it sound healthy!

Im sure this is right and Vita (as lame as it is) is the name of Sony´s new handheld, but this is by no means evidence, anyone that´s ever coded can tell you that it could be a placeholder name,as it actually has been for Sony employees for a while now.

Oh and a thought occurred to me.  This handheld will be known as the PSV which rhymes with PS3.  Synergy!

Makes sense as Vita sounds like a weird euro product name. All them foreigners love their Sony products and techno music.
