Mass Effect 3 Delayed into Early 2012

The ridiculously quick turnaround from Mass Effect 2 was apparently too good to be true.

When BioWare and Electronic Arts revealed Mass Effect 3 would be coming by the holiday season, less than two years after the release of Mass Effect 2, there was much celebrating. You'll have to store the party favors for a few more months, however: Mass Effect 3 has been delayed into early 2012.

"Today we have confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012," said exec. producer Casey Hudson in a statement. "The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations. We'll have more details about specific dates as we get closer to release."

The note appeared on BioWare's message boards and Facebook pages.

Cue the sad trombone. But, hey, more time for Skyrim!

Mass Effect 2 was released in Q1 and that was part of why I loved it. Something to play after the holiday rush

Definitely. Bioware damaged it's brand with the sloppy way they rushed DOA2 to market.  It would be foolish to not make sure ME3 is well polished gem.  I love ME too much to see it rushed for a buck.

Yeah, so I can finally romance Kasumi. I wonder if she's available for f/f romance.

I'm actually okay with this. I like DA2, but I feel that game would've been a lot better were the given a couple of months extra. I'm sure ME3 will benefit from this delay.

I had a feeling this might happen. It sucks, but I'd rather see Bioware make an amazing game late, than an okay game on time.

Pretty much knew this would happen as soon as the game was announced. This will help it in two ways that I can see: the game will be more polished, and it will be easy for marketing to tie it in with the "world ending in 2012" BS to sell more copies.

Is there any way I can filter out news relating to this game? I want to go in completely blind when it releases.

No surprise there. There's other games coming out in the fall, so it doesn't bother me at all.

As long as they use that time to make the gui on PC version actually work like a GUI on a PC version should work.

It sucks that I'll have to wait longer, but I definitely want them to make it perfect.

I would rather them spend too much time than not enough. *glares at DA2*

Also, they announced this delay so far ahead of the assumed release that it isn't really too bothersome. Its when they delay a game a month before release that it really stings.

I don't really understand how the first game had more depth..  It had an inventory system that was used for nothing except breaking down items into omnigel and a slightly more elaborate skill tree.  I really don't know how anyone could call removing clunky features to be dumbing down..

That said, DA2 was pretty poorly received and apparently ME3's been delayed to make it "appeal to a wider audience".  Some have taken to assume that means more dumbing down or adding multiplayer... But I'd guess that they've gone back to add more RPG elements.
"
I think the vehicle missions expanded the world, made it less claustrophobic although they need to make it more fleshed out and collecting armor and weapons was better than just being told your mandatory gun just got better. That being said the inventory management was a pain in the ass, so I hope they take the best of both worlds. After putting 20hrs+ into DA2 finally deciding to just stop playing cause it's garbage... I'm a little nervous.

Thank god. I was worried that the time frame to realease this game was way too soon. Reminded me too much of how it was with Dragon Age 2.

Thumbs up. The extra few months will be worth it, I'm sure.

And with Batman 2, Drake 3, Skyrim et al coupled with my current farming for Pure Bladestone in Demon's Souls ... I have plenty to keep me busy.

I was probably going to wait a few months for patches anyway, after the last few BioWare releases.  I'm glad they see it too.

Dark Souls, Skyrim, Uncharted, Batman -- there's still going to be stuff to play.

Cool the longer I have to wait to hear everyone gushing about how great it is the better, though on the other hand maybe it will just be better when it is over with.

I'm so relieved, a November release would've meant around 20 months of development, not even two years, this gives them a bit more time. We all saw what happened with Dragon Age II when it was rushed =/
