Netflix Starts Shipping Wii Streaming Discs

I got my e-mail, did you get yours?

Netflix began e-mailing out shipping confirmations for the disc you'll need to access the service's instant streaming feature on the Wii this morning. How do I know? Check this out.

No Caption Provided
And now you know. If you're a Wii owner looking to get your Netflix on, you can still request a disc at www.netflix.com/wii.

Got my disc in the mail, booted it up and hey, it is Netflix on the Wii. The menus are basic, almost like the Xbox 360 but a lot simpler in the UI, almost bland looking. Streaming works pretty well for it running in SD. In the end, it works fine but I will still use my Xbox 360 because of its HD capabilities. One plus I will give Netflix on the Wii is the complete silence compared to the roaring beast from Microsoft.

No sir. Just take the disc to a friend's house that has a Wii.  Also, I'm hoping that the Netflix/Microsoft contract ends soon so the PS3 and Wii can get their own streaming channels/apps instead of relying on the disc.   Also, I hope DS Netflix comes soon. "
The DS can't support regular video playback without extra hardware. :(  Even with moonshell you have to convert your files to a gimped format just to play, and that is an offline client.  The PSP on the other hand can support mp4's and has a fully functional (albeit buggy) flash video streamer called PSPTube. I like to see it work for all systems, but the DS is unlikely. Maybe the 3-DS if it turns out to be an actual hardware upgrade. "
Well the DSi does support mp4s... in audio. When I heard of the idea of Netflix on "DS", I mostly thought about the DSi and DSi XL as the main hardware for it.

I don't think anything is impossible when it comes to video game hardware.

They are doing pretty well by being concentrated in one region. Especially considering their business, keeping it one region is the best choice unless you get enough money to afford crossing the border and dealing withh licensing.

@Relys:
The dsi can support video. The japanese wii has a streaming service that lets you stream it to your dsi and watch videos on the go. Here a video of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fECpJ8Nrrgs
So they could put it on the dsi.

This makes perfect sense to Netflix from a business perspective, if they can tap into Wii's userbase they can make a lot more money than they are currently.

I'll use it. People not using it telling people how little they care, try caring little enough that you';re not shouting it all the time. Get a life for real.

Cool beans, but I still prefer Red Box. Not a big movie enthusiast, but I can't pass up on $1 movies for one day.

I feel like I might have forgotten to send away for this, not that I would really use it anyway, but still, it would be nice to have.

Considering the fact that I have a ps3 in an area where my connection is weak, and I no longer have xbox live gold, it'll be good to have it on the Wii.  Even if I can't watch movies in HD.

I got mine too. But I don't know if I'll be using it that much. Right now I have Netflix on my PS3, 360, Wii, and my 52" TV.

In my case it is helpful because the PS3 ,360, and my PC are hooked up in my game room whereas the Wii is hooked up downstairs in the family room where my kids watch TV.

@Jeff:  Thanks for the heads up I just requested one, I tend to watch Netflix streaming through my Xbox 360 but it would always be nice to have the option to do it on my Wii.

I have my 360 set up in my room and my Wii set up in the living room. So now my family doesn't have to take my 360 hostage every time they want to watch a movie!

I probably won't use it. First of all, the quality is probably going to really stink. Second of all, I already have it on my PS3, so there really isn't a need for another one.

"
I also think that's a cool story.  I'm gonna get Netflix within the year I think so I can then catch up on random TV shows that way instead of going to random websites that may or may not be of legal in their purpose.
