God damnit. At least I'm glad it's not the core Bethesda Softworks team that's putting out the game. Those guys need to work on Fallout 4 or something.

Now my question is when in Tamriel's history will this take place? Pre Skyrim? The time between Oblivion and Skyrim?

If the exploration is fun and the world is as good as Skyrim, I'm in. It's what I love doing in TES.

MMOs are so lacklustre these days and with a release as early as 2013 I don't see them having much time to put this together. Plus, Elder Scolls game with no mods = a fucking nightmare to play.

My only worry is that they'd either never finish it or it'd be even more broken than their previous releases...

I would rather explore Tamriel through TES releases. I think an MMO would ruin that. Cyrodil in Oblivion, Morrowind, High Rock and Hammerfell in Daggerfall etc. I think that Sommerset Isle, Valenwood or Elsewyr would be cool for TES 6

This just paves the way for bethesda to soley focus on makeing and putting out fallout 4 for us all to gaze and drool over and such so im all fine with this being and mmo and all may even give it a try

An MMO from the game company that has issues making a single player game that is not buggy as shit. This is going to be hilarious to watch form. They really have no idea what they're getting into, just like Bioware.

Ive never been an mmo guy, but I like the fiction and universe of TES enough that i think i could get into this.

Well... I suppose my expectations are exactly zero, so they can't disappoint me. That's... something, I guess.

It's hard not to think of this as the end, of course. Look at WoW: whatever you feel about that game, the fact remains that Blizzard isn't going to do another Warcraft game for a very long time. MMO's don't end, which means the next game can't begin. Even if this game is very good, which is obnoxiously unlikely (because, ya'know, a very good MMORPG is still a pretty poor RPG) it will still kill the franchise for the forseeable future.

EDIT: Actually, folks about the internet seem to believe it will take place in the second era. That's a good sign. The post-Skyrim timeline is still open for new games.

@Moonshadow101: When a game called Everquest can get Everquest 2, I'm pretty sure they'll manage Elder Scrolls Online 2 if the first one is a success.

Will they provide gradation between the uber light skinned folks of Skyrim and the dark skinned folks of Hammerfell? Or are the political boundaries of Tamriel considered magical climate boundaries as well? Apparently the equator doesn't exist on that planet.

This is how my favorite franchine and faith in the future of gaming died.

Oblivion and Skyrim are ideal for me, I wouldn't enjoy an MMO, but that's me.

And I don't care about Fallout, Fallout was just as close as there was to more Oblivion before Skyrim came out.

I don't really think I want anything from them for a while now, Skyrim satiated that want and I could go a few more years without another TES.

I never wanted this. I don't think it is a good fit.

If they really wanted MP, small party co-op, Borderlands-style, would have been the right call. Do they really want to be the twelfth swords'n'sorcerers MMO on the market now?

So what I'm getting from this is an Elder Scrolls game where I can't indiscriminately kill people.

If it's a one time buy like guild wars, then I might try this out. But if it's subscription based, count me the hell out.

Keep the gameplay and controls the same and stick it on a server for thousands to join, kinda like a better version of two worlds co-op. Add a butt load of new content and bobs yer uncle!

I'm sure it will be fine but its not for me. The MMO format would defeat the whole reason why I play Elder Scrolls in the first place.

If it's like the single player games, but with balanced combat, I will try it. Another WoW clone? No, thanks. WoW is still the best of that heap, and I lost interest in that a long time ago.

Doing something different is fine. Doing something that is known to be very risky in one of the trickiest markets around not a big thing to cheer about.

This will certainly be a fantastic drain on Bethsoft's resources, meaning people will get even less of what they actually want from them.

Nope. Not even going to give it a shot. Biggest fan of Elder Scrolls and this news is like nails on a chalk board to me.

Instead of wasting their fucking time with this, they could've put multiplayer in Skyrim. Fucking morons.

And frankly, if half your playtime doesn't equate to slaughtering entire towns, then you're playing it wrong.

I'd actually like to see another couple of spinoffs for the Elder Scrolls. How about doing an older school style Elder Scrolls for handhelds? We never did get that PSP version of Oblivion, y'know. Or how about (this is for older people) another Elder Scrolls Adventure, like Redguard? Y'know; an action-adventure spinoff starring pirates? Do not care for MMOs...not to mention, the Elder Scrolls world is extremely derivative fantasy. How will it stand out against countless more visually creative MMOs besides with the name/brand power?
