The Sims: The Movie. This is Really Happening.

Please, everyone involved, I have so many other ways to spend your money.

Box Office Gold!
Box Office Gold!
Like many of you, when I heard that someone was making a movie based on The Sims franchise, I immediately thought how great that series would lend itself to the big screen. No wait. Actually, that was any property other than The Sims would lend itself well. I mean, really, it's like trying to make a movie out of Photoshop. Hey! That's a popular name, huh? Photoshop! Let's do it.

Call me jaded, but I actually have a screenplay sitting on my desk at home that has a plot and characters that interact in a language that doesn't sound like my mother making cooing noises to the dog. Give me your money! OK. Deep breath. It looks like there is an actual plot developing for The Sims: The Movie. License to Drive producer, John Davis, gave an interview with collider.com and sheds some light on his current project. Just a warning, this is copied from the source, so I bear no responsibility if you find it completely unintelligible.

"...Tom Rothman, the Chairman of Fox said to me, “How are you going to take this incredible piece of IP and make it into a movie?” Right? Because most games aren’t movies, so this is the way I did it: The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid of a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world. It’s wish fulfillment, and obviously it turns against them. "

Davis goes on to say that there will "definitely...be somebody coming out of the game into the real world..." and that the villain will "set up this incredible obstacle course of incredible things that you can only do through your Sims game that our heroes have to go through before the game becomes permanent and they’re forever screwed..."

Shhhhhhhh...Eh..Eh..Shhhhhh. Don't talk. Don't ruin the moment. John, you had me at The Sims.

GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Thanks to Joystiq for the find.

OMG, this better go straight to DVD or something. I would be embarrassed to start seeing even the trailer for this 'movie'.

It might work.  If in a theater that held 200 people, you give each of them 200 keyboards, and majority action over each thing you do within a 2 hour time, governs whatever happens on the screen.

Wow, that's the most pretentious thing ever.

Reminds me of that video, World of World of Warcraft, the game where you play as someone who is playing World of Warcraft.
