Battlefield 3 Blog believes it might just have the first, totally unofficial image of the game, which doesn't even have a release date yet. The image (below) reportedly comes from a Swedish fellow who calls himself "Doe," who snapped a quick one at the home of a DICE developer, obviously off a TV or a monitor.
I hope he's crouching. To be crystal clear: this is in no way an official screenshot of the game and the source here is suspect to boot. However, the shot does look legit. The soldiers, the atmosphere, and the guns look very Battlefield-esque, and as the BF3 Blog notes, the HUD elements take specific cues from various BF games, most notably Battlefield 2.
Unfortunately, we won't know if this image is real or not until DICE actually tosses out the first screen of the game, which might take a while. Feel free to take this shot with a grain of salt, or salivate with the rest of us. Whatever makes you happy!

All you haters out there can shut up. It's his job to do the news, rumor or not. Brad Nicholson is one awesome duder and besides, who are you to say what they post?
There actually is an issue with this type of journalism. Yellow journalism is a type of sensationalized media, much of the time based on speculation only to attract an audience. We aren't paying anything here, but it'd be nice for a bit more research into articles. Otherwise the credibility of content becomes hard to distinguish.
This is supposed to be a gaming journalism website, I don't expect to see stuff like this posted. Someone needs to reel Nicholson in on his rediculous news posting habits.
Oh, and thank god this is a fake. I'm sick and tired of having consolised huds in PC games. Is there a need for the gun to take up half the screen? Really?

This was a stupid post but certainly a forgivable. I can't believe people are trashing Kotaku on here. Kotaku rarely does this kind of thing plus they break more news than any other publication in the business.

I would agree with you, but the bar is set so high, how could you possibly expect Nicholson to compete!? Anyway, he only writes 95% percent of the news articles on Giant Bomb; they should just get rid of him.

Please tell me what the difference is? One could actually be considered news, because rumors are news despite what you think. While the other is just pointless spam. Both people are posting things as news articles, one is allowed to get away with spam, and the other gets yelled at for literally anything he posts.
I have small hopes for Battlefield 3. It'll probably be fine, but very similar to the previous games. The beginning of the post brings up a great point - between NFS: Hot Pursuit (which is baffling - Criterion could do their own environments, EA), Medal of Honor and BC2, DICE is busy as hell. And it's not like they have DICE New York anymore since EA let 'em go (now, they're KAOS, and they're doing Homefront for THQ). There's NO WAY Dice will be able to radically update/reinvent the game to make it stand out. Well alright; I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. But there's VERY LITTLE CHANCE that they'll pull it off.
