Neat, but unless this is going to involve the ability to purchase games FOR my phone (which seems unlikely since phones already do that) I doubt I'll ever use this.

Valve's iOS requirements are far too high.

once cell phones have terabyte hard drives maybe valve will let us install some of those games on our phone.

The only thing Steam has yet to do is make it easier to actually become a pc gamer. Seen failed attempts from things like Games for Windows and Dell... and cause steams a store, they could never sponsor GameStop to carry graphics cards. It'd just be great if steam could sell prebuilt machines or recommend builds whose parts are extremely compatible with decent driver support.

Speaking as an employee at a medium sized developer of mobile apps...no, WP7 does not exist.

oooooo yeah accepted into the beta :P and yeah its clean simple and easy to use which = spending money on steam 24/7 is now a reality

If there is an option for this app to send me push notifications every time they have a sale, money will cease to be a stock, and become a constantly draining wormhole, which can only be plugged when my phone runs out of batteries.

You certainly can, but having an app instead of using the browser is a far more user-friendly and slick way to access the store. And the easier to use the app is, the easier it is for me to spend money. Also iPhones don't have Flash, so sometimes things go awry when looking at websites like Steampowered.com.

Steam is the only thing that has ever made my cynical mind think, "Well, really, I can't afford to NOT buy that!" Valve is kind of like Chik-Fil-A in that they're so fucking good at what they do that I have to give them a quizzical look and become convinced that their powers go beyond the natural. Surely they are in league with Satan, and sacrifices to him have brought me this bountiful harvest of video games and delicious chicken.

And I just bought my first smartphone. Excellent timing for me.

It's in closed BETA atm and only allowed for people who have been invited.

But we could already do this through mobile browsers. I've bought Steam Christmas sale games via my iPhone while traveling with family.

A custom app may be prettier, but doesn't add new functionality related to the purchase of games.

Not screwed at all, at least not all of us. Some of us don't buy Steam games.
