Xbox Live Summer of Arcade Titles Have Prices, Dates

Time to get out the old Google calendar and plan your summer accordingly.

We learned what titles would compose 2011's Xbox Live Summer of Arcade lineup, but dates and prices were previously unavailable. Now Major Nelson, Xbox's resident mouthpiece, has let slip the dates and points pricing for each of the five available titles. Thanks, Larry.

"Yo! It's like Limbo and shit! But you got a spaceship, dawg! It's trippy!" -- Some guy at PAX East who resembled Seth Rogen in a do-rag.

Supergiant Games' stylish action RPG Bastion will lead off the pack on July 20th, followed by Ubisoft's peculiar-looking god game, From Dust, on July 27th. August begins with Michel Gagne's kitchen sink side-scroller, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, dropping on the 3rd, followed by the Kinect-enabled version of Fruit Ninja on the 10th. Finally, rounding out the pack is Toy Soldiers: Cold War, which closes out the summer on August 17th.

All of the titles under the Summer of Arcade banner will retail for 1200 points ($15), with the sole exception of Fruit Ninja Kinect, which will go for 800 points ($10).

As an added bonus for those who really like spending Microsoft points, anyone who buys all five of the Summer of Arcade titles will get free access to Microsoft Game Studios and Certain Affinity's action RPG Crimson Alliance when it releases on September 7th. That game will retail for 1200 points when it launches.

So, which among these are you planning to pick up? I'm sure Microsoft is banking on you just buying all of them all willy-nilly, but c'mon. Let's be realistic here.

So three of those games are must buys. But 2 of them are definite not buys. Its been at least a couple of summers since there was such polarization in the Summer of Arcade. But there is all most all ways a bad game in there. I all ways wonder why they do that.

Yeah, I've seen that game played. You slice fruit. With your finger. I guess it's for toddlers or something. Anyway, it's 99 cents on Apple's App Store. Fuck Microsoft at $10. Fucking bullshit.

Wow that's a pretty lame bonus, sure I wont complain about a free game but no way I was going to buy all of these, the obvious odd one out is fruit ninja kinect, have no interest in that. In the past they have done points for buying three or all of the games I think that would have been a better route.

Man, that's a pretty crappy summer of arcade deal. I wouldn't buy an overpriced Kinect game, even if I owned a Kinect, just to get the deal. Whatever happened to this being a promotion?

Buying Bastion, and maybe Shadow Planet and From Dust.

I will be buying bastion and from dust, I have heard little about the others but if the demo is fun and reviews on gb say its worth it I will probably buy them all, I am looking forward to bastion the most, pleased its coming first.

I have had some great expierences on xbla and the prices are great, 800-1200 points for games like limbo, braid, shadow complex, trials hd, geo wars, alien hominid, castle crashers plus many more have been well worth it, XBLA & PSN titles have been one of my fav things about this generation.

Some of these titles are interesting, like Bastion and Pixelpon Patajunk, and I'll consider giving them a spin if they're released in an online store that doesn't charge money for me browsing their catalogue.

I was of course being facetious that the xbox store charges you for browsing. I was responding to this, for lack of a better word, stupid comment. Somehow I missed quoting it the first time around.

Great start. Now go reply to all of the people who say they look like good games :)
You didn't say they looked bad, you implied they were bad, giving the impression that you had already played them. So instead of being a really important person, you're just a liar. Shame on you.

Thanks Microsoft, for making us have to own a Kinect to take advantage of the promotion.  For the last two years I have bought all the summer of arcade titles and gotten introduced to some great games I would have never played due to this incentive, but this year I guess all I'm getting is Bastion.

Bastion will be a day one buy for me. Haven't spent 1200 space bucks on a game in a long time but I know it'll be totally worth it with Greg Kasavin as the creative director. That and I've been itching for a good dungeon crawl and this looks like a breath of fresh air in that genre. I'll trial the others. If there's anything I like I'll wait till it's on sale.

Bastion, From Dust and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet look good. Toy Soldiers 2 will probably be alright, but I got my fill with the first one. Fruit Ninja could stand to lose a decimal.

The "Get X if you buy them all" deal was more appealing back when you paid for 4 games and got 5. Now it's 5 and 6.

Will at minimum be getting From Dust. Unless it's secretly terrible somehow.

Am I the only one who feels like the summer of arcade release dates are always way late? Like, not only do you have to wait through a good portion of the actual summer before you can play them, there is also barely any July retail releases of note at all. It would be the perfect time for a deluge of quality downloadable titles. What's up with this?

I think its because they already have pretty good arcade games recently and in the coming weeks, we got Trenched last week, half min hero this week, Ms. Splosion man on July 13th

Toy Soldiers isn't a shooting game, it's a tower defense game in a similar vein to Trenched, Sanctum etc.

If you mean a gold account, you don't need one of those to browse the marketplace.  People with a free account can browse and buy stuff just fine.  If you are not referring to a gold account, then I have no idea what you are talking about.
