Ubisoft’s expansion plans for Assassin’s Creed III look to be more ambitious than in previous offerings, with the company already announcing a three-part story called The Tyranny of King George.

The Tyranny of King George supposes the Revolutionary War didn’t end with a future full of democracy, but a power-hungry George Washington succumbing to the very thing he fought against.

“While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened,’” said executive producer Sebastien Puel in today’s press release.

Sounds like it’s not exactly canonical with the rest of the series.

Today also brings word of the inevitable season pass for Assassin’s Creed III. It will cost $29.99 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and brings five expansion packs, including multiplayer content. Ubisoft said all of the additions will be available within six months of the game’s October 30 release, and if you purchase the Season Pass, it’ll be a 25% savings over purchasing all the DLC separately.

The downloadable content will also be available on Wii U, but it’s unclear if the Season Pass will, as well. I’ve asked Ubisoft for clarification.

    Wat o.o

EDIT: Woo, achievement get. No one is surprised though. Although evil George Washington sounds like the perfect nemesis to the Lincoln Force.

Expansion pack announcements before the game itself is even released, I just absolutely love it!

I hope this DLC has some sort of ridiculous/crazy explanation as to why George Washington would do that. Evil Templar space machines or something.

I like it. Some good, insane alt-history fun. It'd be nice if you can end the game by handing control of the 13 colonies back to their rightful owner, King George III

I know this isn't an original thought, but it kinda makes sense as colonialism didn't EXACTLY work out great for the Native Americans.

@SomeDeliCook: While I agree with you entirely, I hope you're not one to think "Why don't they just put this [DLC] into the game before release?" type of player. This type of thing is primarily to dissuade players from trading the game in - and therefore hurt the used game market. I don't love DLC as much when it's laid out to the public like this (season passes blah blah blah) but I understand where the publishers and developers are coming from with the decision.

I wish that for these season passes they would at least announce the split among single player and multiplayer dlcs. I guess 3 out of 5 are sp dlcs and the other two are mp? I have no interest in the MP so I guess I'll just be better off buying the 3 king george dlcs separate.

Im one of those people that would rather they at least not mention DLC around the games release and try to act like they totally didn't plan some from the start

I mean, that's true, but it has nothing to do with Washington's personal motivations for refusing kingship. And the 'explanation' is probably just corruption via Piece of Eden. AC isn't exactly known for subtlety.

what i don't get is why can't GW be evil and still ring in democracy? GW was a high ranking free mason which is an off shoot of the templars. They should have just made him evil and had the new protagonist miss the target.

This looks interesting to me mainly because this series tends to take itself very seriously (which I think has worked quite well for them) but its nice to see them playing around with a different tone.

It looks like the DLC goes for the ridiculous. "Evil king GW" sounds much crazier.

I'm not trying to flip out over this but I have already pre ordered the "freedom edition" of this game and that was £80. I don't really think it is worth it to be honest but I am a massive fan of the series so I don't much care. But when shit like this happens where they want another £20~ from me to get what is essentially the full game it pisses me off a little. Like why not just make a bundle when people buy the game that includes all the DLC that is going to come out? It's not like the people who get these collector bundles are going to trade the game in.

Actually, that DLC's attention to historical accuracy is just about spot on with the series thus far, Mr. Puel. Par for the course.

Is... this really what you think?

I don't pretend to be an expert in Revolutionary history, but generally Washington is regarded as one of the greatest presidents of the United States. Not only leading the Continental armies, but also was a great statesman, encouraging America to stay out of European affairs, and refusing a third term when offered (This DLC is actually not that strange, because there were some who WANTED to make Washington the king of the United States.)

Maybe he was an asshole to people, but a lot of founding fathers were. This was before Statesmen needed intensive PR campaigns to make them seem like saints.

@Animasta: No.... The Sullivan Expedition was directed against the natives who sided with the British though there may have been collateral damage.

Most natives did side with the British, because they were hoping to stop the colonists from expanding farther west. Who knows what would have happened if the British won though, it may have been better for them, or not.

I mean if you consider the native populations of the USA and the native populations of Canada today you would find that it would indeed have been better for them.

but I distinctly remember reading that washington directly fucked up native americans who sided with the british and some that did not, so...
