Bioshock visits a place and time few games ever do.

he good: great licensed soundtrack - awesome graphics, especially the water effects - Some of the best voice acting you will ever hear in a game - Story with twists that will have guessing til the end.

The bad: Some character models look quite ugly - easy is to easy and hard is not hard enough.

The game starts you in a plane looking at pictures of loved ones. When all of a sudden the plane begins to shake and then finally crashes into the sea below.
You begin swimming towards what looks like a light house, when you reach it you go up some stairs and then into a door it's all dark. Then as the place begins to light up you realize this is not a lighthouse at all. You go down some stairs and enter a elevator looking thing, you pull the lever but instead of going up it goes down. Which reveals one of the most shocking moments in gaming.... The city of Rapture.
As you reach the end of the jaw dropping ride you hear a voice, and you realize it is coming from a radio inside the "elevator". He says his name is atlas and he wants help from you so he and his family can escape rapture.

You play as a man named Jack, Who of course got here by a freak accident.
And on his path to help atlas he will meet many different unique and strange characters.
The first of these characters is Andrew Ryan, The creator of Rapture he explains that he was tired of the religion and governments of the earth so he decided to create his own city where there was no true religion or government. Although i guess you could say Ryan was the only religion and government of rapture.

In his mad Quest for power Ryan had some scientists create something called Adam.
Now Adam is basically a Drug and when injected will give what are basically super powers, except the game calls the plasmids.
There are many different types of plasmids like, electricity, Fire, insect swarm and others, There are also Tonics which will help you through out the game. There are three different types of tonics.
Combat tonics, will boost your defense and your offense whether that be armored shell which reduces damage taken from melee's, reduce damage from fire, ice and more. Engineering tonics which help you when you hack anything that is hackable in the game world whether that be a turret or a safe.
Hacking anything in the game will start a mini game, Unless of course you have an autohack or have enough money to buy out the item you were going to hack.
Physical tonics will boost your strength, can make you invisible, and can give you give you more health when you use health kits.

Like any drug Adam causes the people of rapture to pretty much go crazy, they kill their own family members just for the slightest amount of adam.
And the ones that are left are the ones you have to deal with.
Here is where the little sisters come in, They are the only source of adam in all of rapture. There are usually about 2 or 3 little sisters in each level, You can rescue them for only 80 Adam or you can Harvest them for 160 adam.. But make your decisions wisely since the choices you make with the little sisters will determine the end of the game.
Getting the Adam from the little sisters is not as easy as it sounds, As each little sister is guarded by either a Big daddy or a Rosie. Big daddies (and rosies) were created for the specific purpose of guarding the little sisters, They are in huge armored suits and their only objective is to stop anyone including you from harming the little sisters. They of course won't attack you unless you attack first or you wont get away from the little sisters.
The only real differences between Big daddys and Rosies are this, Big daddys are Male's and only melee and deal a ton more damage then Rosies. Now the rosies Are female and and will only shoot at you with a grenade launcher or a rivet gun, But these can be pretty easy to dodge if you listen closely.

You can spend adam at gatherers gardens. Where you can buy health upgrades eve upgrades, more plasmids slot and tonic slots (max is 5 each for the plasmid and the 3 different tonic types) more/better plasmids and of course the tonics.
Eve is another part of Adam, when you combine the two you get your powers.
Your Eve bar is beneath your health bar and when you use a plasmid it reduces the amount of Eve you have, so you dont have unlimited useage of your plasmids. When you run out of Eve you can buy Eve hypos to refill your Eve bar.

There are stores throughout the game where you can buy Ammo for weapons, health packs, Eve hypos, auto hack tools and some other stuff.
There are also Gene stations where if your not happy with your currently equipped plasmids or tonics you can change them.
The U-invent station allows you to invent different ammo types for each of the six weapons, revolver, Shotgun, Tommy gun, Crossbow, grenade launcher and the chemical thrower (basically a flame thrower).
The way you invent items is by either finding them strewn about in levels or after you kill an enemy you can sometimes find items that when put together allows to invent stuff.

You can also find Money on enemies, big daddies and rosies usually have more that 70 dollars. With the money you buy whatever you want at the "store".
There are also Weapon upgrades throughout the game (12 in total 2 upgrades per weapon) Which will enhance the weapon in different ways. For instance one of the shotgun upgrades increases damage while the other upgrade for the shotgun no longer requires you to pump after each shot therefore increasing rate of fire.
Each weapon has three different Ammo types, regular ammo, and then two special types. The shotgun for instance has regular 00 Buck ammo, and then it has Explosive shot and then electric buck which will electrocute anything it hits. Each ammo type for each weapon has its use so using the special ammo on a regular enemy wouldn't be wise.

There is also a camera that you can take pictures with and taking pictures of enemies, turrets and other stuff will increase your damage to that specific enemy type.
If you feel like exploring the game just for fun you might find some diaries which will help you get even more into the story.
The game encourages Multiple playthroughs which I also recommend to get the full experience.

The game might take you 10 hours to beat on easy, but if you explore since it is easy to get sidetracked you will probably spend around 15 hours playing the game.

The graphics are outstanding the water effects are the best I have ever seen in a game to date. The world graphics are quite good although some character models up close look quite ugly.

The sound is beyond awesome, the soundtrack includes songs from the Era the game is set in and Other music helps set the mood. The voice acting is quite good, and is never at all cheesy.

While the concept of a city under water might seem a bit crazy. I can find no reason for you to not visit this psychotic city beneath the sea.

Bioshock truly is a memorable creation. 0

You are a man known as Jack, who finds himself drowning in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean after his plane crashes down. However, he is rescued from certain death by the appearance of some sort of lighthouse situated on the water itself. Too weary and desperate to consider this peculiarity for more than a moment, Jack swims to the towering building in a moment of pure introductory brilliance and finds himself in its 1960s-esque interior. Descending down after gathering himself properly, he disc...

      BioShock Review 0

When I thought new Sci-fi shooters began to overlap, I was contradicted after purchasing BioShock. The primary difference this game has (although it has numerous differences to today's shooters) is its emphasis on making decisions. At first when you are given the choices in this game, they don't seem so heavy, but as you play through this game you will see their significance. Despite a lack of multiplayer, BioShock is a very powerful shooter that gamers out there should not miss. The Plot- It is ...
