Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Game » consists of 23 releases. Released Nov 05, 2007

The fourth main Call of Duty game ditches the World War II setting of the past games to tell a story set in contemporary times, and backs it up with a breakthrough multiplayer mode.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the first installment of Activision's series to be set in the modern era. It combines a short but fast paced campaign that never keeps you waiting with online multi-player that is nearly perfect.

In the campaign you play as either a soldier in the British S.A.S. fighting to stop Russian Ultranationalists from taking over the country or as a US marine fighting in the middle east to stop an extremist from rising to power. It is on the short side, (It took me a bout 8 or so hours to finish) but on the highest difficulty setting it can get a pretty tough and frustrating. However the game feels different than other modern warfare games because of the fact that the end of the campaign doesn't really leave the world as a better place and in a way sets in up for a sequal.

The online multiplayer is a magnificant work of art, basically you have 5 custom slots of which you can edit however you want, choosing your gun, side-arm, perks and weapon attachments. The ranking system is also extremely well balanced, basically you earn experience from kills, completing challenges and match bonuses at the end of a match. You use this experience to rank up from 1-55 unlocking new challenges, guns, etc. But the catch is that once you hit the maximum rank of 55 you can choose to start all over in the prestige mode and do this up to 10 times. It really is a system that more games should look at and realize how well it really works.

In conclusion Call of Duty 4 is a game that any fan of a shooter should player no matter what. I strongly recommend this game.

I'll start out by admitting that I'm not a past fan of the Call of Duty games, though not out of dislike, more out of ignorance or just never having a chance to play them. Call of Duty 4 is my first true step into the series and on the subject matter I'd say it's akin to stepping out onto the middle of a battlefield without going through boot camp first. So yes, I died a lot, it's pretty realistic and hard, but most importantly it's intense and immersive. The single player story is short, I'll ge...

The 18-35 male is a valuable commodity. They have the kind of money that allows them to afford $500 consoles, and thus makes them the hot target for developers. They work part time jobs at your local supermarket and are usually in some form of debt in spite of their spending habits. In their free time, they enjoy multiple energy drinks, weed to ease the energy drink buzz, and UFC because there are fewer highs more sweet than a good ground and pound. And their hero? The soldier. The partially unk...
