Castle Crashers Review
Castle Crashers is a XBOX Live Arcade game in which you and/or your friends will be battling through a side scrolling adventure game, where button mashing isn't a requirement, but will allow you to get that much further into the game. This game was delayed several times, as the developer wasn't quite ready to release it, to the games defense the wait did not hurt the game.
The graphics are what you'd expect from a good XBOX Live game. The animations are crisp, you're not going to see an blurring, or tearing. Also the different, sometimes very unique, enemy designs will leave you never bored.
The sounds and music feel like they were meant for the game, and as one who is a bit OCD when it comes to games, I can say that I never once was willing to grab the remote to mute the game, nor did I ever feel the need to play music over the game.
The controls just go to show you how much polish went in to this game. Every button feels like that's what its suppose to do. Just in case you didn't read the help, which I didn't remember that even though this is a slash and slash some more game, the Left trigger is the block button.
The game has you and your friends battling from left to right on a field that is in a sense 3D but stays locked in the side-scroller view. You will be battling hordes of enemies, collecting coins to buy items, collecting fruit to replenish your life, collecting unique items, and completing overall adventuring as you try to recover the princesses, and unlock different sections of the map. The only thing that isn't completely 100 percent clear is when it comes to switching weapons. There will be time where you'll pick up a weapon not knowing what it will do until you visit the blacksmith, then there will be other cases where you'll see the wide variety of weapons that the blacksmith has only to look like a total idiot swinging your weapon wondering why the weapon you are standing in front of won't equip.
If you are looking for a game that has its moments of mindless, violent, and humorous fun, this the game for you. I have to say that the wait was well worth it, and playing with at least 1 friend makes the game that much better. If you are willing to drop the MS Points to get it then I say do it, and you won't regret it. Even after the story portion is completed you can always go back through the game with a different character and level them up, or use an unlocked character that becomes available through your journey in the game. This game gets a 9.6 out of 10.
