365 Games To Play Before You Die

These are all the game that have appeared on my (ir)regular blog of the same title. They are in no particular order and I'm going to update it as I go along.

The fact that you are using the list function this way makes me all tingly inside. :P

Age of empires being on there made me want to find my copy and play it again :)

WHERE IS CHRONO TRIGGER

Posted by Defias

Glad to say I played nearly all of them.

Some of those games are definitely superfluous, borderline mediocre.

I'd better see Robotron 2084, Joust, Wing Commander, Chrono Trigger, and Tie Fighter before this list is done!

@Diamond: I think there's few people who have actually played 365 amazing games and I'm not one of them, so I have to have some filler games in the list.

Don't worry I've still got over 200 games left so I'm bound to include your favourites somewhere.

I understand then.  I should congratulate you on having some worthy obscure games like Jazz Jackrabbit and Gabriel Knight.  I see a fair number of adventure games on your list, ever play any of the Tex Murphy games, especially the later ones (Under a Killing Moon onwards?)?

GREAT idea for a list.

borderlands is a great game, but there are a lot better games to experience... o and where's Okami?

Posted by Belonpopo

I've played like 150 of these game in one way or another. I feel special.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why does this list now only contain 125 entries? Am I missing something?

Posted by mracoon
@FreakAche:  I haven't got around to finishing it.

an alright list, not enough classics on there, like for instance "Super Mario Bros", or even asteroids, and even street fighter 2 as well as mortal kombat, but good for what it is so far.

Hmm I guess if you put out a list of games that someone should play you will fail without a doubt if you pick games from multiple decades. At their time they may have been great (I still love to switch on my SNES) but today they are close to garbage, not all but a lot of them. Games that succeeded due to their well written story and dialogues are more likely to live on gracefully than games that mostly counted on stunning graphics. Famous example: Pick up Final Fantasy VII today and you will fail to see how anyone could have gotten pleasure out of that game... (sry fanboys, some might say the same about my all-time favourite Terranigma though 2D sprites age way better than early 3D games). What I am trying to say is that you might wanna rephrase the name of the list as it's more like: 365 games you should have played when they came out, doh! Still, great games on the list... FIFA 99, yeah!!! :-D

I have played the most of those games, and i think they deserve to be on this list as well.

By the way, I'm so glad you put grow cube.  I forgot about that game.  I''m going to have to beat it again.  I love all the grow games, and grow cube is the best.

iv played about 75 of those games i need to play alot more

Sorry, this list just seems to be every game you ever played and half-ass enjoyed.  Maybe a description for the games? Some of them honestly are not worth revisiting.

Posted by mracoon
@ChernobylCow:  I got about 20 games in then realised that I'd never played 365 games that were amazing, so the title is quite misleading but I couldn't be bothered to change it. I have written descriptions for most of the games on the list in my blog which I started before the list feature came out.

Okami should NOT belong on this list.

As far as the list itself, I've only played some of these games, but the ones that I played were REALLY good.

MOVIES! YES! Why is that game so hard to find. :(

I wanna play it again so bad.

Wow .. I own most of these. Have to agree with your selections, it's a pretty comprehensive list.

Any chance on you picking this list back up, mracoon? It was shaping up to be awesome.

Posted by mracoon
@dankempster: I want to but then something else always comes up. I will finish it eventually.

Grim Fandango better be in the next 215!

Great list, I love the diversity of genres it has.

Great to see Freedom Fighters on the list: I believe it was one of the most under-rated games out there.

Great List.
I'm totally with you on when Warcraft was a strategy game. I HATE it when people called WoW "Warcraft". It's not. Warcract is the strategy game that WoW is just in the "world of". These people need to learn the heritage of their beloved crack game.

One suggestion: Freelancer. A great game that somehow slipped under the radar. If you haven't yet, play it sometime.

If only I had a year to live.
Thanks for the list

Great list.

Going to show my age here...I've been playing games since the days of Pong and Atari 2600 and even though I've gone through periods of time in my life when they haven't been my main focus / hobby / pastime for various reasons, undoubtedly I've seen a few games in my time, that's for sure. I've also stumbled upon countless lists of 'games to play before you die' and I must say, your list is really refreshing to see. Although I can't absolutely agree with everything on the list (I'm sure you'll agree, it just gets harder to do, the older and wiser you get!) but it surely does reflect a lot of my personal favourites.

Stopped reading at Max Payne.
