Cauldron Keep is the final level of the Nintendo 64 adventure-platformer, Banjo-Tooie. It is a smaller and simpler level, but is full of familiar and new challenges.
Opening the keep requires the work of both Banjo and Kazooie and the Split-Up ability. After pressing the switches, the gate will open.
The first serious challenge is Klungo, who will use one of three potions to challenge the bear and bird. The potion is random, but will be the one remaining potion that Klungo has not used. He also has better aim than in his last fight when throwing his potions. Defeating him leads to the Tower of Tragedy quiz.
Similar to the Furnace of Fun challenge in Banjo-Kazooie, Tower of Tragedy is a quiz show hosted by Gruntilda where she asks questions concerning the game. The questions can range from simple pictures to questions about bosses or transfomation. Gruntilda's sisters also participate, but one of them will be much more challenging to defeat than the other. Defeating the two sisters leads to the final battle against Gruntilda.
Unlike in Banjo-Kazooie, Gruntilda uses the giant drilling machine, the Hag 1, instead of simply the broomstick. The Hag 1 has a slew of different attacks like laser, mortar cannons, and the trademark giant drill. After her attacks, Banjo and Kazooie enter first-person mode, where they must attack Gruntilda with eggs. Gruntilda will also continue to ask quiz questions (these being tougher than the questions in Tower of Tragedy), where a correct answer will offer a slower attack from Gruntilda, making it easier to attack her. After destroying the drill quite literally from the inside out, Gruntilda will summon minions, release cyanide and mustard gas to lower Banjo's air supply, and finally finish with a tremendous attack that must be used against her to win.
After the end of the game, Banjo, Kazooie, and their friends will be seen playing kickball with Gruntilda, who remains only a skull after the Hag 1's explosion.
