Cave was founded in 1994 by Kenichi Takano after Toaplan went bankrupt. With the help of other ex-Toaplan employees like Tsuneki Ikeda and Junya Inoue, Cave flourished and quickly became one of the world's most well-known developers of bullet hell shoot 'em ups. The company holds a Guinness world record for highest number of developed games in the subgenre.
