This is just about the most perfect game for this. Its hard on the eyes and ears to play it like that for ten plus hours, but it makes the experience so much better. Will you or won't you?
Dead Space 2
Game » consists of 18 releases. Released Jan 25, 2011
Dead Space 2 is the sequel to the 2008 surprise hit Dead Space. The no-longer-silent Isaac Clarke finds himself trapped on a city-sized space station called the Sprawl, which has been overtaken by another Necromorph infestation.
Will you play it in a dark room and with headphones?
I just can't do it. Unless I want to progress at a snail's pace, I can't play it without some lights on.
Headphones though, yes.
During the daytime while there is at least 1 more person in the house.
I do not enjoy scary stuff, it doesn't give me a rush. I will play the game for the gameplay and story (really digging the unitology stuff).
I'm playing the first Dead Space in a dark room (have to with a projector) and surround sound, and I'll be doing the same with this! Dead Space has some of the best sound design I've ever heard, and the surround sound makes thing extra unnerving. I really hate those doors that open and close really fast. :(
Either years of horror movies watching callused my psyche or that I am just not that easily scared. I don't know how people found Dead Space scary. Don't get me wrong, good game, but not at all scary. It more relies on startling you then actually getting you scared.
@SSValis: It's way better to play it with a surround sound system.
only way to play!!!!!! right now playing through dead space mobile for the phone/touch/pad on my touch 4 looks awsome in retina, this game is incredible on here and if you have a device you owe your self to play it, plus its only 6.99 and story takes place right before dead space 2 begins, you also get a special item and a power node for the console/pc version if you register it.
MY GOD I JUMPED OUTTA MY CHAIR LOL! earphones FTW! sound is awsome as hell on mobile version too! its dead space for your iphone you cant go wrong.

Makes me wish these guys could try out Amnesia to see if they can take it as it was a lot more effective at trying to scare you. I still wasn't really scared by it but I was always with a sense of paranoia whenever I felt there was too much silence.

ON TOPIC: I will play in a dark space, however not with headphones but with a sound system (surround is broken unfortunately but the sound I can get is still pretty good).
Nope. Bright room, regular-ass speakers. I'm also thinking about listening to Life is Beautiful whilst playing it. Well, maybe not that last part.
FUCK NO. I'll have headphones on since they are the only speakers hooked up to my PC that are worth a damn, but I'll be playing it with the lights on during the day. I get freaked out by video games pretty easily. Movies, on the other hand, have no such effect. In a movie I can go, "Don't go down that hallway. That's a terrible idea." With a video game, it's, "Oh shit, I have to walk down this hallway." For some reason it makes a huge difference for me.
Using my wireless WoW headphones on my computer in a room with dark curtain.
Already had some jump scares, that game has some awesome surround.
Hearing something running up behind me just to turn around and be knocked off my feet by some awful fast running alien thingy is scary as hell.
Not the headphones but i waited till it was the early morning to start the game. I have so far, other than a couple of cheap jump scares not really been very frightened at all in the first three chapters. This game seems much, much better lit than the first game and I havent been as unnerved as i was in that...yet.
I remember playing the first game this way while taking care of a friend's cats. The biggest scare I got was one of the cats jumping onto the back of my chair during a really intense part in the game. I think I almost had a heart attack.
Head phones are a must for any game that you want to scare you. I know this might be completely backwards to some gamers, some seem to actual not be able to handle the tension in Dead Space. But for us, the people who enjoy being scared, it is a must. I actually bought a pair of Astro A40 headset and wireless Mix Amp, and it is perfect for gaming. I often times have to take the headset off to make sure that the sound is not actually coming out of the TV and super loud. Then just turn off all the lights and sit 4 feet away from your HD TV and get ready get the piss scared out of you. The sound in Dead Space 2 is probably the best part, and anyway to amplify the experience is well worth it.
Yes. it's not about being scared for me, but just for the experience. When I'm playing a game that has a very dark environment and a lot of atmosphere I like to play at night with headphones on. It's about getting rid of as many external stimuli as possible so that I can really get lost in the game.
