Don't get me wrong, I am pumped to play DOTA 2.  I played the original Defense of the Ancients way back when it was just starting to get popular and loved it.  I enjoy the MOBA or Hero Arena Games or whatever you wanna call it; I'm actively playing League of Legends right now.  But I was watching the stream last night (or early this morning) and when someone killed another player, it still said "pwned".  Now, I was okay with the original DOTA doing this because it was a mod that someone created and wasn't anything officially released.  Something dumb like that was easily overlooked.  But now that Valve is releasing this game proper, in my humble opinion, stuff like that is just simply lame.  I mean, I'm still gonna play DOTA 2, but just seeing that kinda irked me the wrong way.

What's wrong with keeping an affectation like that? Sure it's silly and kind of stupid but that game seems to be all that too.

Aparently the entire game is just a straight port of the mod, so this fits.... I guess...

They took DOTA and put a 2 on it.

It's puerile, sure, but any misgivings are instantly washed away the moment I hear "M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!"

What does that really matter? I'm kinda bummed they're doing the "denial" thing that I dislike so much. I wish they'd refined the formula a little more, like LoL did, instead of just copying everything from the mod.

I'm indifferent to peoples hatred towards the term "Pwned". 
 
I'm sure DOTA 2 will have more than enough other jargon that people deem cool until they deem it lame six months later.

Yeah it rubs me the wrong way too, but it is kind of a throwback to the original DOTA and it kinda gives me some nostalgia from the days of playing DOTA.

I heard a legitimate Ph.D neuro scientist use the term pwned in casual conversation just recently.

My interest in the game dwindled the more I saw blank pwned blank's head. I really hope there is an option in the menu to replace that with something different. Just because it was a part of the original game doesn't mean Valve had to keep it that way.

I guess he is fine with the overly dramatic Unreal announcer? Talk about being picky. I guess being a Valve game disqualifies you from using internet terminology. Next up on the word crusade: fragged.

Denying increases the skill ceiling. They're going for the hardcore audience, so I'm sure the game will play as similarly to DotA/HoN as possble.

That being said, I'm sure there'll also be a 'casual mode' where denying does nothing and you don't lose gold when you die.

Dota was a mod created by a dude while dota 2 is (supposed to be) a professional product made by professional people.

@Crixaliz: Yes, which is weird considering this is going to be a retail product. I'm sure Epic wouldn't be too happy that their announcer sounds were ripped and placed into this game.

And just because something really dumb has precedence in a series doesn't mean it should stay in the series.

HoN has "pwned" too. It was in the original DoTA, gotta keep it the same so no one complains.

By keeping it the same they annoy maybe 10 people, they change that and its the kind of thing that everyone that played DOTA bitches about
