those super mutants look like the same as in fallout 3 in this image, are they reusing character models?
Fallout: New Vegas
Game » consists of 25 releases. Released Oct 19, 2010
The post-apocalyptic Fallout universe expands into Nevada in this new title in the franchise. As a courier once left for dead by a mysterious man in a striped suit, the player must now set out to find their assailant and uncover the secrets of the enigmatic ruler of New Vegas.
anybody disappointed with the graphics?
It's just going to be a glorified expansion pack. Same engine. Mostly the same models. New missions, locations, characters, story. Honestly, Fallout 3 looked great, and the console hardware hasn't changed. I loved Fallout 3 and played it to death, so I don't mind that they're reusing most of it. They're basically cashing in on all the work that was done on the first game, yes, but I'm not too concerned. There are some new features, and probably some gameplay tweaks. As long as the content runs 20-30 hours, I'll be happy even if it looks and plays identically to Fallout 3.
Think of KOTOR and KOTOR2, the graphics weren't anything wildly better - it was just a new story and more gameplay. Obsidian have a history of doing expansions to other company's IP this way and I welcome it. I enjoyed KOTOR2, the story wasn't as solid as KOTOR1, but Bioware were always going to do that better. Obsidian refines gameplay and gives a new story, that'll be what is happening here.
" Second, it's a sequel the same way Crysis Warhead was to Crysis. "Umm no. Crysis and Crysis Warhead were both done by Crytek and they both happen on the same island at the same time. FO : New Vegas is an entirely separate game made an entirely different developer (Obsidian vs Bethesda in this case). Fallout NV will use new art assets as well as many of those from FO3 because that's what Obsidian does and many of the same enemies (Super Mutants and so forth) and landscape contexts (irradiated post nuclear landscape) will be the same.
Dude, Fallout 3 is beautiful, and actually, I don't see what all the negative fuss is about. Graphically, New Vegas is looking even better than Fallout 3, although similar.
" The more I see of this game, the less I want it. I feel like I've had enough F3 for a lifetime. "Oh God, me too...

I believe he was talking about the chronological part of a sequel. No need to be nit-picking.
I wonder if the bugs have been fixed since Fallout 3. Probably not.
Honestly though, wasn't the fallout 3 engine basically the oblivion engine? Which was pretty early in this generation honestly, you have to admit, it hasn't aged well. I'll be way more interested if they bring out a new engine for all this shit, one that feels a lot more modern than the old one.
Edit: Oh! Also Rage. They could use Rage. Forgot about that engine for a second. Well, more like 6 months.

He's trying to say that they're reusing assets and FO3's engine to produce a new game with a different story, which is exactly what you are saying.
" I'm thinking Fallout New Vegas is to Fallout what GTA Vice City and San Andreas were to GTA III. "Hmm, I'm not sure the comparison holds, those games were drastic improvements over GTA III, nobody realized they weren't "real" sequels until they decided to build hype by calling the seventh game GTA IV instead of a subtitle.
As much as I loved F3 (S RANK!), I'll probably pass on F:NV. Maybe if VATS can be done faster I will think about it because without VATS it is the worst FPS ever made and with VATS I have to watch a slow, SLOW motion playback of what I selected to shoot. The first time through F3 it was fine, but by the second, third, and DLC times through the game I just wanted it to play in real time or faster. Oooooh, his head blows up real nice in slow motion, I GET IT.
Gamebryo is a pretty aging engine, which is something that Bethesda will have to deal with for their next game. However I still feel that it will do for at least New Vegas. I do also feel that NV is in good hands since Obsidian is staffed by some of the same guys who made the first two games so they know what to do with the ip.
But who knows, them reusing the engine might be a good thing since historically Obsidian has made some horribly buggy games.
I'm sort of glad it looks the same, I think it looks a little crisper and smoother though. I don't see the need to reinvent the wheel every time a sequel comes out.
Remember KOTOR 2? Seems to be the exact same deal here - visually and mechanically identical games, aside for a new story/setting, and slight gameplay refinements.
Back in 1998 Fallout 2 was one of the best RPGs I've ever played and I have faith in this cause its at the hands of the original developers back in Black Isle studios that made the Fallout franchise one of the best PC RPGs of the decade. I mean of course since Bethesda is publishing it they are likely to use the same Gamebryo engine but this time hopefully Obsidian should hopefully make this more than what Fallout 3 was now that their old baby is back at their hands. In fact I would prefer that Bethesda assigns all development of the Fallout franchise to Obsidian instead as I believe they will bring the franchise in right direction better.
It's the same fucked up broken engine. I cincerely hope Bethesda uses id Tech 5 for Elder Scrolls V and all of their upcoming games.
" @mshaw006 said:I guess it's more accurate with just Vice City, and I really only mean that in the sense that they have the same graphics engine and, largely, the same core gameplay as the originals. And the colon thing too. That too." I'm thinking Fallout New Vegas is to Fallout what GTA Vice City and San Andreas were to GTA III. "Hmm, I'm not sure the comparison holds, those games were drastic improvements over GTA III, nobody realized they weren't "real" sequels until they decided to build hype by calling the seventh game GTA IV instead of a subtitle. Im hoping for some animation improvements, the graphics all look good.
I do wish they would support dx11 on the PC though...
Hey the graphics engine is already done so they they probably are saving a lot of time not worrying about it and focusing more on the actual gameplay. Even then it looks a bit better. So I'm super excited to see more.
I don't really have all that much of a problem with the graphics from Fallout 3 so just a little polish on those is fine by me. I just want improvement in areas like the main story, dialogue and some of the missions structures. This game remains a straight up buy for me and probably a CE purchase.
