So i've just been checking out the CVG and IGN Far Cry 3 reviews. Interesting they seem to give them similar scores. What are peoples thoughts on it? Be interesting to see if it does live up to the hype, and capture the feeling of a good, sprawling open world first person game.

First Far Cry 3 reviews coming in
:o I was actually considering skipping this, but it seems like a lot of good things are being said about it.
Also; Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
Not to be a sayer of nay, but let's think about the reviews given for Far Cry 2. Now let's consider the way a lot of people turned on that game and view it as a tedious mess.
Far Cry 3 I think looks pretty good, though I'm still hesitant on what platform to get it on. PC is out of the question and I would ordinarily get it on my PS3... But I dunno, I've gotten so wary of console games (or games in my case) as of late so I really hope the technical aspects will be able to pull through.
Here you go you lazy bastards. If that's not enough then just take everyone else's word for it.

I've only actually read the RPS review but it made the game seem really good. I might have to get this day 1. Good thing there something going on later on in the year, I was going to be all bummed out since Borderlands 2 was about the last thing I was particularly excited for.
I can put AI sharks into my custom maps? Huh.

that's because you can't trust most reviews nowadays, I don't even read them anymore, I'll take a quick look/wtf is over a review any day of the week.
Though to be Fair farcry2 was pretty neat in parts, I ended up getting hooked to that game after a while, I even beat the damn thing.
I'm preordering this for PS3. Gotta support the motherland even though I was disappointed by AC3. Plus, I haven't punched a tiger in the face since Yakuza 2.
Yeah, IGN and EGM gave it good scores, well more like in the great range, so it seems to be off to a nice start. I was planning on getting it, but these scores are helpful all the same. The most interesting comparison will be between Far Cry 3 and the new Tomb Raider in 2013. I think they will share some features in terms of an open world, a similar theme to the story, and some similar game mechanics (exploration/shooting). Therefore, I think the comparison will be very telling when both can be compared side by side.

People that have played Ubisoft games on PC - how is Uplay?
That RockPaperShotgun link you posted earlier says that there's no UbiDRM but you still have to launch it from UPlay, though you can play it offline.
The only time I've used UPlay is to play Driver San Francisco and it seems fine. Didn't cause me any problems.

It's OK. Played AC: Brotherhood with it and it wasn't too bad. They don't have the always-on DRM anymore, so when I did get disconnected from the internet during the game, I didn't lose any save progress. The only thing that's odd is when you click "Play Game" in Steam, only to be greeted by another online online retailer and asked to click "Play Game" again from it.
PC Gamer has a review up too here. I remember the FC2 reviews, i didn't enjoy it as much as they suggested and i felt the whole injecting thing a quirky mechanic that never really fulfilled its potential. Became WAY too much of a chore. Think the problem i always find with massive open words is dynamic content, something Red Dead did really well. That being said, may give it a look in on the PC at some point!
@BeachThunder: Uplay is Ok, downloaded the client to get used to it, very lame that if you already own Ubi games, you can't tie them into your account for a digital copy yet, or in no way that i've seen. Basically having to buy two copies of any Ubi games you own is lame.

Trying to work out your ethnicity... Iranian/French/Turkish?
I'm born Canadian so I was referring to Canada as the motherland despite the fact both my parents are old time Yazdi-Zoorastrian Iranians. GO UBISOFT MONTREAL!
I can't tell if all this luggage from dead animals that is so prevalent in every review is intentionally or unintentionally funny.
Either way, I'm glad all that weird interesting story stuff is on top of an amazing sandbox.
I normally don't give too much on reviews either but I have to say that the 10 from eurogamer surprised me since they don't give it out that often. It would be quite the turn of events if Far Cry 3 got five stars here on giantbomb in a year where nearly all the big AAA games disappointed to some degree (AC3, Halo, ME3, Black Ops II, Darksiders II, Max Payne 3) and I don't think a lot of people had FC3 on their list (I certainly didn't).
I preordered the PC version of the game but was on the fence because of my experience with FC2. The game footage that was trickling out before these reviews was enough to convince me. These reviews just cinch it.
So far it looks like Ubi really addressed the criticisms of FC2, they even moved it back to an island settings. Couldn't be more excited about the game. Really looking forward to sinking some of my free time over the holidays playing through the campaign.
Goddamn if RPS doesn't make it sound like exactly what I was hoping it would be.

That sentence sold me.
Oh dear God yes.
I'll wait for more reviews after release, and then listen to some podcasts about it and decide whether or not I want it.
These reviews are making me want to buy this game, but I'm still worried because I could only play like 5 hours into Far Cry 2, as that game just felt like a grind with a boring story. I played Far Cry 2 3 years after it came out, though, so maybe it just doesn't age well. I don't know what to do.
Ok, can someone tell me why reviews are coming out for a game that won't be out for another week in EU and another 2 weeks in the US? It's like hey thats awesome that this game is good and all but.....we can't play it. For a while actually.
See, Far Cry 2 got spectacular reviews and I still ended up hating it (mostly due to all the minor annoyances). I really hope they push out a demo or something. :\
I heard that the systems were great, but the tone and the story were wonky as fuck. But I am all for having a fun time in video games and liked Far Cry 2.

Same here. And honestly, Far Cry 3 looks just like Far Cry 2, except more green. The prospect of an open world first person shooter is only interesting to me if the world itself is interesting like STALKER (though technically not open world). The world in this game just looks like a tropical island full of pirates. Throw in a crafting system where I have to trek all around the world collecting shit to make a healing item or make myself a backpack, then I lose all interest. Didn't interest me in Skyrim and New Vegas, sure as hell doesn't interest me here.
