I know I am. Not because it's GameStop but because I want to play FF XIII right away. I got my 52" setup and everything. So who else is going?

Are you going to GameStop's midnight release?

I'll be the one with a pulled up hoodie trying to keep the socializing to a minimum. "haha reminds me of the burning crusade midnight release in london. 4000 people in hoodies for 9 hours. "

I've only been to one midnight launch that I actually had fun at. That was the midnight launch of Uncharted 2. Not a lot of people there that night which really sucked because Uncharted 2 was like the best game in 2009.
I can never see the point of going to them.
I mean yeah I understand the heavy desire that we gamers get to go and play a new, good and unplayed game. But waiting in a line overnight for someone who isn't going to open the store any earlier than 9am is just a complete waste of time to me.
I'd rather just let the pre-order come to me via the post. And the funny thing is, the games store depo is quite nearby my house, so I tend to recieve games earlier than release date anyway. As they send them out to arrive on time, and mine arrives ahead of time.
Besides, at the end of the day, as much as I love my video games, they are only video games. Playing it in a few hours instead of right away is hardly going to hurt anyone. Well anyone without any mental problems.
" I remember my first midnight release. It was for GTA IV. For some reason IGN was there. Anyways, I'm gonna pull into the GameStop every hour to see if there's a line forming. If there's only a few people at midnight then I'm gonna say forget it. "Someone got stabbed in the GTA IV midnight launch over here. GTA fans are even crazier
No, I hate midnight releases and never understood them. They're crowded with meganerds, and you gotta wait outside for a game, everyone looks at you funny, and you make an easy fool out of yourself. Half the time the meganerds get into some stupid fanboy arguments, and it just degrades from there. And you're not even guaranteed a copy unless you wasted more time earlier going to the story to give them money in advance for nothing.
No, no, no. I will wait the few hours it takes to go to sleep, get up the next day, walk two feet to the games store, make one trip and leave with the game. Much easier. It's not like they ever sell out of anything. I always get all the super-popular-PREORDER-NOW-or-you-will-never-get-it-midnight-release-games a few hours later without the hassle and there's always plenty in stock to be seen.
The only time a midnight release convenience me was the fact that I was out at night, when MWII came out, I saw a store was open at like 12:30 and figured, why the hell not. THen I brought it home, played five minutes, and realized it was 1, and that I was waay to tired to game. Totally not worth it.
I'm in Toronto Canada and don't know of any place doing midnight launches (though I haven't been looking either).
I'd probably be too embarrassed to actually go to one, though if I had some friends who were interested I probably would :P
nah, I work at Toys R Us and I'm gonna get it there. That and there's a buy 1 game $39.99 or more and get another $20 off. That'll work since my gf and I are both getting it, plus employee discount. Even if that wasn't the case, not a fan of midnight releases, they'll still be there in the morning. Especially something like FF because it isn't gonna be a limited print release.
Good Luck and have fun!
I don't think I'd ever wait in line to buy a game that was longer than a 5-10 minute wait. I won't even go around town looking for something. If a game I was isn't there when I want it, I'll either order online later, or check again the next time I happen to be at a mall. I've only ever preordered Demon's Souls and Way of the Samurai 3, and both were from Amazon. I picked the free deliver option, and got my games 3 days after release date, and played them probably a week or so after. I've never had a burning desire to play something enough to warrant going out of my way to either find it or wait in line.
That said, I may be missing out on an interesting life experience. If I was to do something like that, I'd just do it for the experience, not the actual game.
I went to the Modern Warfare 2 release in the Bay Area..
there was a bunch of asian dudes dressed as girls..
Yeah I am going to the midnight release for FFXIII. I am really impatient when it comes to my games and like to get a few hours before I have to go to work. I much rather have the feeling of "man that game was awesome I can't wait to get home to play it again" instead of "man time is going by so slow at work I can't wait to get off so I can pick the game up".
I want to be awake when I actually play, and I got to wake up at 5:30 to get to class, sooooooooo.......
Nah, not excited enough for it. The only game i wen to a midnight release for was MGS4 at a best buy. It was much different then i imagined. I didnt have to wait in a line outside, there were alot of people but i was in and out in about 10 mins. They had alot of copies so that could be why. Anyways it was worth it. I played untill 4 in the morning, i had the next day off so i slept untill 11, made a nice breakfast and played the rest of the day. Easily one of the most memorable gaming experiences ive had.
Midnight launches are insane for all the wrong reasons. Good on you though for having that sort of energy on a weekday. Also as a worker in a Best buy I can tell you there are plenty for the week, they will not run out.
"crowded with meganerds"
You're on a Final Fantasy message board. There's no distinction between you, me, them and us.
I actually ended up going and picking it up about an hour ago, which surprised even me. It honestly had nothing to do with any level excitement I had for the game, but rather laziness. I have access to the car tonight, so I can just drive to the mall. If I get it tomorrow, lack of access to the car until about 5pm would mean I'm walking there at 10 am, and I'm far too lazy for that.
